A Rookie Travel Mistake

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

Well, for someone who considers herself to be an avid traveler, I definitely made a novice mistake yesterday!

We didn’t return to our hotel room on Miami Beach until 11pm, at which point I thought I was going to fall asleep standing. In my exhausted haze, I adjusted the thermostat quickly as my room was freezing. I switched on the heat, headed for the shower, and hoped the freezing room would warm right up. Upon stepping out of the shower I was bit with an icy breeze! I quickly called down to the front desk requesting help with my thermostat when the woman laughed and stated that I’m in Miami and should realize there is no such thing as heat.

Therefore, the boxers and tank top that I packed to sleep in did not keep me warm. I slept with the comforters from both beds on top of me and a towel wrapped around my head all night! Still, I woke up almost every hour freezing!

Now that I’ve made this rookie mistake once, I will always pack both warm and cold weather pajamas. If I’d had a pair of warm flannel pajamas I would have been plenty warm! You never know if you’ll have a working thermostat or in last night’s example, heat!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday! I’m off to squeeze in a few miles along Collins Avenue or the boardwalk before another long day of store visits. Late this morning this week’s Marathons+Moderation guest post will be posted and it’s a good one!

Question: What’s the biggest travel lesson you’ve learned?

WHAT? No heat??? Even if it is Miami that’s crap!!! I’m in Orlando and we turned the heat on last night. It’s chilly in Florida.

    Hope tonight is warmer!

I’d never think to bring an extra set of pajamas for warm weather versus cold weather.

My biggest travel lesson has to be bed bug checks. It’s the first thing I do when I get into my room. A coworker has found them before and so now I am always on edge.

Oh yes, welcome to Florida…I am colder here, thanks to air conditioning, than I was when I lived in Syracuse!

Wish you could take a trip up north and see us in Orlando!

Katy: I wish I could come to Orlando too!! Yes, I’ve been colder here than I have been in ages! Last night it was so chilly out near the water and unfortunately I didn’t pack a jacket!

Oh Florida! That is the biggest problem – it can be so hot outside, but freezing still inside! My biggest traveling problem is either forgetting my phone charger, or leaving it where I visit. I have done that too many times!

Mary: I’m so tired of being cold on this trip! Literally I have been freezing since we arrived! 🙁

I’ve learned to always pack a second outfit into a carry-on in case my suitcase gets misplaced! Arg… Not fun :Z

Allison: That’s a really good idea! I do my best not to check bags but every now and then am forced to do that and alawys wear a faorite outfit and pack my running clothes in my carry on bag!

I always run into that in the summer; it’s hot outside, but I need to bring a sweater with me everywhere because of the air conditioning. I can’t believe they didn’t have heat though! The biggest travel lesson I have learned is to leave a little space in your suitcase when you’re packing. I always seem to come back with more than I had when I left!
