January Favorites

January Favorites

Happy Sunday! I hope you all have enjoyed a wonderful weekend. Do you have plans to watch the Super Bowl? Since Bo and I are both from Georgia, we have hopes that the Atlanta Falcons will Rise Up and win tonight. Unfortunately, we just realized that since we got rid of cable this month, we don’t know how we can watch the game at home. Any tips? If your football knowledge is less than stellar, give this article a glance before you watch the game tonight.

Since I didn’t have a chance to share my weekly favorites with you this month, I decided to share a round-up of the things I loved during January. Now, let’s dive into this edition of favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught or that I found myself loving this month.

  • Orangetheory – Since the new Park Slope studio opened in January, Bo and I have loved working out together at Orange Theory one to two times per week. As I mentioned previously, their coaches have been terrific in helping me make adjustments as needed due to the pregnancy and I love that each coach truly creates a motivating and supportive environment. The 60-minute classes fly by and so far I’ve really enjoyed the longer treadmill sets intermixed with the rowing and strength portion. The high intensity interval training has complemented my YMCA routine as well as the more gentle barre and pilates workouts I’m taking.
  • Acure Sensitive Facial Cleanser – The past month my face has become victim to the cold, windy weather and dry air. While I’m still using my favorite oil cleanser in the evening to remove my makeup, I’m using this sensitive, mositurizing cleanser in the morning and in the evening, following the oil cleanser. If you’re looking for an economical, natural skin care line, Acure can be found at Walmart, Target and Whole Foods and is a great way to transition your routine and experiment with different items.
  • I’ve been using this rich, hydrating, natural face moisturizer a few nights per week after exfoliating and have noticed a visible difference in my face. My makeup went on smoother and my skin feels healthier after just a few uses.
  • Even though my parents have been to New York many times over the years, it’s always fun to plan a few special activities during their visits. This month our plans include indulging in safe to eat cookie dough creations, high tea at The Plaza and spending time at our favorite NYC museum in between some maternity and nursery shopping.
  • While Bo and I both enjoy duck, I often find many of the recipes to be overly rich or complicated. Thanks to Serious Eats Dinner Tonight section, we enjoyed a simple and flavorful duck dish last night. We made a perfect winter meal by pairing the fig duck with homemade mashed sweet potatoes and brussels sprouts.
  • If the winter air has your hair screaming for help, I highly recommend Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Creme. I’ve been using it for the past six weeks as a styling cream before blow drying my hair and see and feel a noticeable difference. My hair is softer, smoother and has less frizz throughout the day.
  • Burrito Bowls – I’ve been craving Mexican food this week so after seeing Nicole’s burrito bowl tutorial post I did some research and ended up buying the ingredients to make a hybrid recipe this week including inspiration from Nicole, Damn Delicious and Ambitious Kitchen.
  • Looking for a few new running blogs or just some inspiration to get off the couch? I find Amanda’s posts to always be informative, but this round-up of running blogs was especially helpful for someone looking to update their blog and Instagram feed.
  • Julia’s idea to sip this green smoothie as an afternoon snack inspired me to buy the ingredients today and try whipping it up when I’m working from home this week. I love that the recipe includes a few items I’d never think to put in a green smoothie like collagen and sunflower seeds!
  • Since receiving this under eye concealer in last month’s Birchbox, I’ve used it daily and recently ordered the full-size version. It doesn’t crease, goes on easily and helps give me that well-rested look we all crave.

What is a recipe, product or post you loved in Janaury?

Friday Favorites – June 3, 2016

wine slushySource

Am I the only one who feels this short week was actually the longest week ever? My inbox and to do list is out of control but luckily, there are just a few more hours until I can relax and unplug. Tonight I’m stopping by Hey Day for a 30 minute facial before a wine and dinner date with Theodora. The rest of our weekend is going to be pretty busy as we are having sod delivered tomorrow and hoping to finish the backyard before a housewarming party on the Upper West Side. What are your weekend plans?

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • This post proves it’s possible to pack 10 days worth of cute outfits in one carry-on bag. Pin it so you can reference it when you pack for your next trip!
  • We whipped up this healthy coleslaw recipe on Monday and were so in love with the first taste that we doubled the recipe and enjoyed leftovers all week long. If you’re an Old Bay seasoning fan I highly recommend kicking the slaw up a notch by adding a few dashes of Old Bay.
  • I had meetings and events on the Upper East Side three times this week which translates into four hours of subway time. I was able to read over 100 pages in the new Curtis Sittenfeld book, Eligible, which Theodora recommended to me last week.
  • As I mentioned previously, I’m slowly but surely cleaning up my skin care routine, swapping out products for cleaner, less harsh ones. When I finished my night cream last week I ordered the Acure night cream, hoping I would like this one as much as I like their day cream. The night cream is heavy but moisturizes my skin without clogging pores and leaves me looking fresher each morning. The tube looks small but a little bit of this rich cream goes a long way.
  • After seeing this video I think I know what I’m bringing to tomorrow night’s housewarming party. I mean come on, does it get any better than rose wine slushies?
  • Now that short and dress season has arrived, I find myself shaving on an almost daily basis thanks to my dark, brunette underarm and leg hair that seems to grow ten times faster in the Summer. I swapped my regular Venus razor for the Venus + Olay razor and am in love with the silky, smooth results.  The Olay moisture bar on the razor leaves my legs looking as if I just applied moisturizer, saving me a step each day. (As a reminder, I am a P&G employee, but my opinion is honest and my own.)
  • The new emojis have been announced and I’m looking forward to filling my texts with palm to face, fingers crossed, avocado, shrimp and tacos! Which new emoji is your favorite?
  • One of my friends from college, Michael Lage, worked on the team that just answered Chick-fil-A customer’s number one complaint – the lines. I’m so thrilled to see that the app, Chick-Fil-A One, is currently the top downloaded app in the app store! The brilliant app allows customers to order and pay for their food in advance then quickly pick it up in a separate, shorter line when they arrive. Anyone who downloads the app gets a free chicken sandwich between June 1st and June 11th! Yum!
  • Eleven of these thirteen books everyone will be talking about this Summer were just added to my Goodreads account in hopes of reading them this Summer! What books are on your Summer reading list?

Friday Favorites – March 11th, 2016

run along brooklyn

Happy Friday gang! If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (@healthyhappier) you know that I kicked off the day in my favorite way – a long run. I’m actually taking today off from work so I can get our house prepared for the wedding shower we’re hosting tomorrow night. My mother-in-law and I are spending the day together cooking, arranging flower arrangements, decorating and getting organized. I’m so excited to see the finish product come together tomorrow and hope that Russell, Meg and all their friends enjoy the evening!

As promised, in regular Friday fashion, here is this week’s version of Friday Favorites. So, as you count down the hours until the weekend begins, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

Warm weather means the opportunity to reintroduce some of my favorite items back into my wardrobe. For this morning’s errands I sported my Chuck Taylors, ripped jeans and my new sunglasses!

Do you find yourself doing push-ups but not seeing results? You could be doing them all wrong. Dara, one of my favorite Fhitting Room instructors, shows everyone how to do the perfect push-ups in this helpful and inspiring Daily Burn post.  Suns out guns out?

house of cards
The House of Cards addiction is real friends. I have no idea why it took me so long, but I’m officially obsessed with this series. Certain aspects remind me of Scandal, though darker. I’ve made it through eight episodes and am so curious to see where the series goes. Don’t worry, everyone has warned me that season 3 is horrible but season 4 makes up for it. Bo and I also get a kick out of the fact that the two main characters share our same workouts – running and rowing.

Running the NYC half marathon next weekend? If so,  this post is for you. Elizabeth is a running coach who has run the NYC half marathon seven times. Her course strategy, tips and tricks for the NYC Half has me excited to race and I’ve already printed her helpful pace bracelet!

Slowly but surely I’m updating my skin care regimen with natural products. The Acure day cream  absorbs quickly, fights aging and helps stimulate cell renewal. It’s light enough to wear under makeup and leaves my face feeling silky smooth. In just a month of use, my face looks brighter and more vibrant than ever before!

If you loved Spotlight as much as us, you’ll love this Washington Post article that Martin Baron, past editor of the Boston Globe wore about what the movie meant to him and the industry.

This marathon playlist helped add some spice to this morning’s long run. The first song, Downtown, reminded me how much I love running to Macklemore which then lead me down the Spotify rabbit hole, adding Swedish House Mafia, Daft Punk and Red Hot Chilli Peppers to my half marathon playlist.

Lately I’ve been practicing yoga on an almost daily basis in the comfort of our home. I light a candle, roll out the mat and spend five to ten minutes unwinding. This routine is great for recovery or relaxation and just the way I like things – short, sweet and to the point.

The arrival of Spring and a few upcoming trips have me inspired to shop again. My J.Crew Factory shopping basket is overflowing with bright pieces including this necklace, a fun, eyelet dress perfect for any Summer party and this top that is screaming to be paired with white jeans.

That’s a wrap for this week’s Friday Favorites! Hope you have a wonderful day and a great weekend!

Your turn: What’s your favorite running or workout song these days?
