Natural Deodorant vs My Sweat

Today was not only a busy day, spent in one room while focusing on one project with my new team. It was also a downright embarrassing day; especially since I work for one of the world’s largest health and beauty products company which sells a small brand named Secret.

As you may have seen, I have a great Summer giveaway taking place through tomorrow night. Compliments of Stonyfield, the package includes lots of organic items I’ve never tried. Like many other people, I’m trying to make healthy changes to my lifestyle, including increasing the number of organic foods and product I use and enjoy daily.

IMG_3068 (478x640)Unfortunately, I will not be switching to organic deodorant. There are few comments worse than hearing, from a co-worker, that you’re sweat stains are noticeable or that you’re daily fragrance spritz isn’t working. Over the past two days, including 2 different workouts and 2 days of business clothes, I’ve received negative feedback.

IMG_3068 (478x640)While I wasn’t necessarily expecting the Tom’s deodorant to stop my sweat as effectively as my favorite Secret deodorant, but I was expecting it to cover the scent. Unfortunately, it didn’t do either, even though I reapplied during a bathroom break both days. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great benefits and ingredients in Tom’s of Maine deodorant:

  • aluminum-free
  • PG-free
  • all natural
  • No artificial colors, flavors, fragrance, or preservatives
  • Odor Fighting Hops
  • Odor trapping zing salts
  • Conditioning Vitamin E
  • Soothing Aloe

But, none of this is important to me if it means that during a regular business meeting, I have to think twice about sitting next to a co-worker or raising my hand in a meeting. Today, I felt just like that Sure commercial from the 1990’s.

Until someone can suggest a better option, I’m going back to my favorite Secret Scent Expressions deodorant and going to do more research on the risks of a chemical filled deodorant.

Question: Do you have any suggestions for other natural deodorants?

Wow – that commercial is from the 90s? I feel so old!

I use Dove because I am a sweaty fiend, BUT my chiropractor recommends L’occitane deodorant . She’s always running around and in the hot sun and has success. I do think it’s about personal pH balance though — and really it has to be about what works for you!

I use two kinds. On days that I will be in the general public and not looking to show that extra perspiration I use Dove Visably Smooth.

Other wise I’m 100% behin Le Crystal. I use the stone version, but I’ve heard good things about the stick as well. It has all the benefits of the organic deodorant you’re looking for, only down side is that you still sweat and show sweat, but there is not one hint of odor! When it claims to block the bacteria that causes odor, it’s not lying. 🙂

    Roll-On & Stone
    A Completely Natural Body Deodorant
    Made in France

Le Crystal Natural comes in the form of a crystal opalescent stone or a Roll-on. and is made of natural mineral salts and is exceptionally effective at eliminating body odor. Invisible mineral salt deposits remain on the skin to prevent odorous bacteria from forming and can be used daily and is recommended for all skin types, and both Men & Woman.

Le Crystal Natural is Hypoallergenic, Completely free of perfumes and chemicals Fragrance Free and will not stain clothing, will not leave white flakes and leaves no residue.

Le Crystal Natural Stone: Moisten the stone and gently rub on the underarm. The crystals natural mineral salts form a protective barrier against odor causing bacteria on your body. So you maintain you body’s natural balance. One stone used daily can last up to a year.

Le Crystal Natural Roll-On: Applied daily the roll-on will not last as long as the stone but is ideal for those who are more comfortable with the familiar roll-on format.

I have not tried natural deoderant and I certainly won’t be now 🙂 I think working in corporate america (like we do) there are some things we just can’t do (such as smelling bad or having armpit stains or dressing “sloppy”.

On another note: I am also running the CP run on Saturday 🙂

I use the crystal rock products. There is a small rock available in whole foods (travel size) that is natural. You moisten the applicator and apply it to your skin. ONce it dries, it creates a barrier that stops the odor causing bacteria (B.O.) from escaping. I use it on my feet when i go sockless (keeps my feet from being stinky) and also in areas that I sweat a lot. It took some getting used to but i like it alot.

I haven’t worn regular deodorant or antiperspirant in about 2 years. I generally use essential oil (love lavender) and baking soda. I wipe the oil on and pat on some baking soda. It smells amazing all day and works better than any (natural or regular) deodorant I’ve ever used.

This doesn’t travel well, however, and is not always convenient. The natural stick deodorant I keep on hand is Lavanilla. It’s pricey, but great.
