Ride the Runway with Cyc & SIX:02 + A SIX:02 Giveaway

Most seasons, New York Fashion Week comes and goes without me realizing it beyond the increase in traffic, fashionable people and difficulty booking restaurant reservations. But, luckily for health and wellness bloggers, over the past few seasons as more and more ready to wear brands are expanding their lines to include athleisure, this week of fashion highlights is becoming more relevant. As this crossover occurs, athletic brands are also taking advantage of the week and highlighting their brands through either smaller, pop-up events or runway shows to capture the attention of influencers and media who are in New York City for the week of madness.

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending my first New York Fashion week fitness event, Ride the Runway. This evening event brought health and wellness influencers center stage, by means of a Cyc Fitness  spin bike, for a fashion show highlighting the hottest Spring looks from SIX:02. How about that for a fun, innovative twist on a NYFW event?

While Keoni, the founder and mastermind behind Cyc Fitness led us through a sweaty and energetic 45-minutes spin class, models debuted the hottest Spring fashion. The spin class was very unique as the Cyc method includes five positions, versus the typical three positions and leverages weighted sandbag/beanbag like weights for multiple songs. It is definitely a challenging workout! During the arm portions, the music changed and the spotlight focused on the runway area. For the next two songs models ran out, showing SIX:02’s hottest Spring gear. Instead of doing a traditional runway walk, they each gave a nod to fitness by doing push-ups, burpees and sprints in the gear. For those that aren’t yet familiar, SIX:02 is a fitness fashion destination that carries the most stylish and on-trend activewear and footwear from top brands like Nike, adidas, Under Armour, ASICS, Koral, ALALA and more. They have 30 stores across the U.S. and are launching a NYC flagship this Spring!

The Spring gear they highlighted was from a range of brands including Nike, Adidas and Alala and exactly what you’d expect from a fashion show- vibrant, stylish and a bit edgy. I counted at least five items that I’d love to add to my SIX:02 shopping cart, especially the Nike shoes and neon leggings. Can a girl ever have enough leggings? Wait, don’t answer that question.

SIX:02 didn’t want the fun to stop with the Ride the Runway event though, they want readers to have the opportunity to shop the new Spring fashions on their site. Therefore, one lucky winner will win a $50 gift card for SIX:02!

HOW TO ENTER: – THE GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED AT THIS TIME.

There are two easy ways to get entered:

  1. Follow me on Instagram and leave me a comment letting me know your handle.
  2. Visit SIX:02 and leave a comment below, letting me know what piece of Spring gear you want to buy with your gift card.

Giveaway will end Tuesday at 11:59pm.

This is not a sponsored post and all thoughts and feedback are my own. Thank you to SIX:02 for providing the gift card and to both SIX:02 and Cyc Fitness for hosting a wonderful event.  Thank you to Mike Green for the incredible images.

Tahoe Ski Weekend

tahoe group

Well Tahoe, you were a treat!  We may have come back short one pair of skis (more on that later) and may not have tried your restaurants or bars, but your mountains, snow and gorgeous views did not disappoint. The fresh air and a weekend away were exactly what both of us needed after the past six weeks of going non-stop.

We spent four nights relaxing with Dane and Kristine in her family’s Truckee home.  Each night we found ourselves curled up on the couches, watching a movie (Jobs and Black Mask), sharing a huge bowl of popcorn and sipping wine. Their fireplace was constantly on while we were home, and our bellies were beyond happy with the many meals cooked together.

Kristine and I chose almond butter, banana, cinnamon, honey and Ezekiel bread as our morning breakfast while Dane and Bo whipped up eggs, bacon and toast. Our slope meals were not the heavy, three-hour long lunches we experienced while skiing in France and Switzerland, but they were better than expected. In fact, Kristine and I were both able to get our daily dose of greens slope side with huge, made to order kale salads. Bo was in his glory, putting the well-appointed kitchen to good use, especially the huge gas stove. Our group planned dinners based on what we were craving: roasted chicken, ribs and hamburgers were requested from the crowd while one-night dinner ended up being our two-hour post ski happy hour food fest which included homemade guacamole, a cheese and meat plate, apple and almond butter and wine. We enjoyed this so much that we ended up the one dinner reservation we made due to full bellies.

The weather the first day prohibited three of us from skiing since only the black runs were open in the afternoon at Squaw Creek. But, while Bo skied, the rest of us spent two hours exploring the shops, restaurants and fireplaces in Squaw Creek’s village. Luckily due to improved conditions our entire group was able to ski on both Friday and Saturday. I challenged myself by skiing blue and double blue runs all day, even trying my hand at some moguls and a bowl. Kristine witnessed my trepidation, or as she called it “assessing the situation” first hand, but unlike years past, this only occurred on two runs and lasted just a few moments.  The skiing in Tahoe was exactly what we hoped for – a beautiful mountain which has a great mix of runs for all abilities. We were able to ski for hours each day without growing bored or even doing the same run more than a few times. I especially appreciated the fact that even though it was ski week in California, when many kids have winter holiday from school, the slopes and resort were still wide enough not to feel packed.

The resort itself exceeded our expectations twice during our visit.  On Thursday, they gladly refunded me for the one day of skiing I couldn’t enjoy since the mountain was open! Then, on Saturday, when my skis, unfortunately, were stolen or “borrowed” by another skier during lunch, they let me use a pair of demo ski on the house. While I was beyond frustrated to lose my K2 skis, which I’ve loved dearly the past two years, they helped ensure that it didn’t ruin our day.

Overall, I would highly recommend heading to Tahoe if you are looking for a beautiful, relaxed mountain getaway. During the winter months, the area is alive with ski and snowboarders while the Summer beckons hikers, bikers and water lovers to the lake and mountains.

Thank you again, Kristine and Dane, for hosting us this weekend!

Friday Favorites – February 19th, 2016

IMG_9989

A trip to Tahoe with good friends was exactly what my mind needed. Plenty of sleep each night, relaxing in front of the fireplace, mountains of fresh snow and time skiing and enjoying the fresh, cold California air is the break that I needed after a pretty draining January.

As promised, in regular Friday fashion, here is this week’s version of Friday Favorites. So, as you sip that second cup of coffee and count down the hours until the weekend begins, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

Please imagine small lab rats with weights tied to their tails. This is what scientists did to figure out which type of exercise is best for the brain. Turns out that distance running is best for improving the brain!

My favorite Summer NYRR race opened yesterday, The NYRR New York Mini 10k! If you are looking for a fun, Summer race in New York City or a destination race, this is a great option. The world’s original women’s race, it is always a fun morning including some superstar runners, flowers and medals at the finish line and this year even a free digital race pictures. Even in last year’s horribly hot conditions, this was a new 10k PR and I loved the event, so I will definitely be running it again this year.

Bo and I always love cooking Indian food at home, though rarely invest the time needed to make the delicious dishes. After seeing this Afghan Braised Chicken in in Yogurt on Anne’s blog yesterday, we pinned it and added it to next week’s menu.

This week Well+Good shared their perspective on the 7 hardest workouts in NYC. It turns out that Bo and I have only tried four of them so the others have been added to our list for February and March. I think Tone House intimidates me the most!

After using Laura Mercier’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder for four months, it has quickly become a step in my daily make-up routine I will not forego. It takes just seconds to apply, lasts for ages and takes my look from done to flawless. It doesn’t show to the naked eye but instead just makes you look a bit more fresh while also helping your makeup, even if it’s a tinted moisturizer, stay in place all day even through a sweaty workout.

Almost daily Rachel inspires me with her delicious, mouth watering pictures and simple, straight forward recipes. When I saw that our pantry has all the ingredients for this chocolate chip banana bread recipe, I pinned it for Sunday night. I want to try making a muffin version as I swear this would be the best motivation to wake up for early workouts. A tiny bite of goodness before Barry’s Bootcamp or Brooklyn Bodyburn? Yes please!

While organizing my beauty closet this week, I discovered my favorite winter fragrance, Tom Ford’s Black Orchid. I thought it had been lost in the move when in fact it was just hiding under a few hair sprays, body scrubs and makeup samples. Luxurious, unique and woodsy, this fragrance is unlike anything else I own. The rollerball size is my favorite as I can stash it in my purse or in my travel bag.

I love that Delta is committed to improving their plane food so much so that they want fliers to say that it is wonderful food instead of “wonderful for plane food.” What better guy to partner with than Danny Meyer to take their in-flight food to the next level. Hopefully some of this carries into coach class as well.
