Thanks for this post! I’m doing the same thing, but I’m exactly one year behind you! Last year’s marathon inspired me and now I’m down to the last two NYRR races for guaranteed entry in 2011. It’s crazy exciting!
I wish you the best of luck in running next month! I’ll be out there cheering you on and envisioning myself following in your footsteps (pun intended)!

I’m glad you found this helpful! Hopefully others will too. Which other races are you doing?
This is a great post, Ashley! Which of those races was your favorite? Would you do them again/recommend them? Any you WOULDN’T recommend? And what is the virtual race?! That sounds cool.

I love the Brooklyn and Manhattan half. I’d never recommend that MORE Half because it is 2 loops in Central Park which isn’t my favorite. The NYC 4 mile races are my favorite because their fast but include fun hills! 🙂 Want to enjoy a workout class this week? Yoga tomorrow night at Equinox?
Running the NYC marathon is on my running bucket list as well! I love the idea of the 9+1, what an amazing way to build up a running community! Best of luck in the upcoming race!!
I always thought the 9+1 program was a good idea and it’s awesome that you were able to take away friendships from your race experiences instead of just seeing them as a list of things that needed to be done to get to your ultimate goal!
That sounds like such a GREAT program. I am always marveled by how racing makes a community as big as a city (DC in my case) feel much smaller and intimate. Sort of like the blogging community. I love seeing familiar faces of people that I don’t “know” but always see at my local races. I can’t wait to hear about your finish!
9+1 for 2011 – wahoo!! Great program. I’ve got two more races to go to get there.

Congrats! Maybe I’ll see you at a few as we’re doing four this season!

So exciting! You have inspired me – after school, I think this will be a great challenge to overcome. I will definitely lean on you for training/advice!

The 9+1 program seems like a lot of work, but a great way to get in!

Great post! Funny, I am from Philly, moved to NY, joined NYRR, am doing the 9 plus 1 for 2011 Marathon! Great tips!

9 is a lot of races! That’s a neat concept to gain entry to the marathon. Can’t wait to read your recap and the answers to the other questions.

I guess I am a little late to the party here but I just wanted to add my congratulations.
