Friday Favorites

Are you all ready for the weekend?

It is very weird to have so little on our schedule this weekend but I am welcoming the change with open arms. Our weekend schedule includes lots of sleep, a little bit of baking, a few hours of work, and the half marathon on Sunday followed by a bbq at a friends home in Nyon, near the race finish.

After a very productive day working from home I spent 30 minutes on the mat stretching out my hamstrings and all the kinks. IMG_2033[1]

This serves as a perfect segway into Friday favorites! It’s been a while since I did a Friday Favorites post but I figured now is as good a time as any to get back into the habit. Let me know if you like it!

Runner’s World Yoga on A RollI’ve foam rolled and I’ve done yoga but I’ve never done them together. This video is an awesome, free way to relax your muscles while stretching out some especially tight areas like lower back, hamstrings, and hips! I really appreciate that Runner’s World features lots of full-length, runner focused, free yoga videos on their site.

WoodWick Fireside CandlesIt’s no secret that I have a soft spot in my heart for scented candles. I love that the candle makes a crackling sound when it’s burning and the warm, cozy scent welcomes Fall into our home anytime I burn it. I felt the stress immediately melt away when I lit it before my yoga practice today.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer – I rarely use a concealer as I’ve never found one that I loved. I’ve tried a bunch over the years but either ended up with the wrong color, spending more than I wanted or not liking the consistency. I don’t mind paying a premium for something I wear or use daily, but concealer isn’t one of those.  I don’t wear it everyday and therefore it doesn’t make sense to waste money. Luckily on a trip to Space NK this week I discovered Nars Radiant Creamy concealer. The applicator makes it easy to smooth on while the formula instantly transformed my discoloration and bags to vibrant and bright.

Italian winesWe’ve been drinking more Pinot’s from Burgundy but have been missing the depth of grapes like the big bold wines we used to drink in the states like California cabernets. After reading last week’s New York Times article we realized that some Tuscan wines, such as Chianti and other Tuscan blends may be great to add to our rotation as the sangiovese grape has incredible depth.

Crest 3D White – Last but not least, I can’t forget to feature my favorite toothpaste. When we were home last month three different people, including my mom, asked if I’d had my teeth whitened. That is a sign that my whitening toothpaste is working! This toothpaste whitens without making my teeth sensitive and is available in most drugstores, grocery stores or on Amazon. At less than $4 a tube, when purchased on Amazon, it’s a lot cheaper than professional whitening and makes an impact after just two weeks!

July Favorite Things

July Favorite Things We’re enjoying the last few hours of vacation in Savannah but I wanted to stop in and share a few of my favorite things.

1. For the past 15 years the Weber’s Real Grilling Cookbook has been a staple in my parents’ home. As you flip through our copy of the cookbook there are notes written on over half the pages, critiquing each recipe. A few of our favorite recipes include the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin,  mango and black bean pork chops, grilled scallops, and fire rubbed pork chops.

2. There is nothing more refreshing than ice cold water midway through a long bicycle ride. This Camelbak Podium Chill 21 ounce water bottle is small enough to conveniently pull out during a ride, but large enough to keep you hydrated. We ordered 4 to use for both bike rides and gym workouts.

3. I have been wearing these Adidas Summer Powerluxe Chevron Shorts non-stop since arriving home last week. As soon as I pulled them out of the box I knew they’d be my favorite marathon training shorts. The thick waist band and wider than normal leg openings means that they are comfortable for even the sweatiest of Summer runs. The cute pattern doesn’t hurt either though I have realized that these days brands are putting chevron pattern on EVERYTHING!

4. It seems that 2014 is the year of the baby for many of our friends. We have six good friends who have either recently welcomed a new addition into their family or have recently announced that there is one on the way. Luckily, one of my high school friends has launched an adorable Etsy shop, Barefoot Decor Baby & Home Gifts, specializing in home and baby accessories. While I love cute baby clothing as much as the next person, I’d far prefer to support a friend while also giving friends practical and cute baby gifts. I ordered $200 worth baby bibs and car seat covers this morning. Everything on her shop is homemade, adorable and vibrant – perfect for anyone on your list!

5. It has been ages since a book grabbed me drew to me the sofa or chair, totally unaware of the clock ticking next to me. For two days I did everything in my power to spend as much time reading Me Before You as possible. The book is about two people whose lives couldn’t be more different and how they bring the best out in one another. It’s a great book for all ages as my mom loved it just as much as I did. I can’t wait for the movie to come out next year!

May Favorite Things – Summer Fashion

Spring has arrived and Summer is quickly on its way which means here in Switzerland people plan long, exotic holidays for two weeks at a time. While we’re not heading anywhere exotic, we are going to enjoy 10 days of rest and relaxation in Savannah, Georgia for Bo’s 30th birthday with some of our closest friends and of course our family.

This month’s favorites revolve around the items I’m loving for the upcoming warmer months including my favorite sunglasses, a perfect sweater for cool evenings, a relaxed t-shirt dress, a long dress perfect for date nights, and a cover-up which will be perfect for Summer evenings along the lake or out on the boat in Savannah.
