Friday Favorites July Edition #2

Happy Friday! Who is ready for the weekend? Bo and I are looking forward to a relaxing weekend. We are doing date night tonight, seeing Inside Out before enjoying a quiet dinner together. Tomorrow will be a nice little Saturday with some furniture shopping, mattress shopping, workout and finally a double date.

Whatever you do this weekend, I hope you make time for some rest and relaxation as well as at least one sweat session! It always feels great to get those endorphins going, even on the weekend!

I’m heading out the door for a doctor’s appointment, as I’m still not feeling 100% yet. My general referred me to a gastrointestinal specialist so hopefully he can figure out what is causing the issues. But, similar to last week, it’s far more fun to talk about my favorite things than dwell on illness.

Enjoy this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

The thing make me happiest this week is the fact that yesterday at 2pm Bo and I signed the lease to our new apartment! While we don’t move in until August 15th, the furniture and grill shopping can officially begin! We’ll be living in Brooklyn, right on the border of Carroll Gardens and Boerum Hill.  Since we have the lower two levels of the brownstone, we also have the backyard which means there will be LOTS of grilling in our future!

I had to buy a few new beauty and hair products this week since my arsenal of beauty products were packed in our sea shipment. I can’t believe how much my hair likes the new Herbal Essence collection.  In the picture above, I used the Illuminating shampoo, rejuvenating conditioner, and elixir before letting my hair air dry.  While yes, I’m a P&G employee, I haven’t used this brand in ages and was pleasantly surprised considering the price!

I’m excited to be back in America for a presidential election year. While I know it’s going to be complete craziness, I want to understand what each candidate, even the crazy ones, stand for and believe in before the primary season begins. This simple quiz, helps you better understand their issues by showing you who you naturally side with.

I used to love the Eat This Not That in Women’s Health magazine, so naturally when I saw this Harper’s Bazaar article posted by Kristine, I had to see what the fast food options the nutritionists picked.  It’s crazy that some restaurants “healthier” versions are actually worse for you than the original, like McDonald’s Egg White Delight!

One of our goals, now that we’re back in NYC, is to take advantage of the wonderful museums. Next Sunday we’re heading to the Museum of the Moving Image to see their Jim Henson exhibit and movie as well as check out the other permanent and temporary exhibits.

Anyone who knows me, or follows me on social media, knows I love adding a statement necklace to give an otherwise boring shift dress or tank top a pop of color. I’ve been wearing this cluster necklace one non-stop since buying it a few months ago.

I headed downtown last night for a facial at HeyDay, a great new facial-only spa that opened in Flatiron. Their concept is that facials should be a regular part of your routine, just like getting a haircut or workouts. They have 30 and 50 minute treatments, each far less expensive than most NYC facials and over half the price of what facials cost in Geneva! If you’re local, I can’t recommend them enough. The 50 minute facial felt like a mini vacation due to their adorable decor, friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere!

Last but not least, if you want to squeeze in a workout while traveling but don’t want to worry about finding a gym, check out Sarah Fit’s latest bootcamp style outdoor workout. It doesn’t require any equipment other than a timer, which most of us have on our phone!

Friday Favorites – July Edition #1

Happy Friday everyone and greetings from Bearsville, NY.

After sleeping nine hours last night and taking it very easy on the food front, I woke up feeling MUCH better.  It wasn’t easy to eat a dinner of applesauce, saltines, and plain baked potato while the rest of the group sipped red wine and enjoyed charcoal grilled rib eye steak, potato salad and fresh tomatoes!

I’m not 100% but I definitely look more like myself and can enjoy the gorgeous surroundings.

Our plans for the weekend include hiking, boating and spending a lot of time on the wrap around porch grilling. What are your plans for the long weekend? Are you celebrating the Fourth of July locally or getting out of town? To my European friends, I hope you’re staying cool. I can’t believe it’s over 100 degrees in most of Europe!

Enjoy this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other items that caught my eye this week.

Kristin’s Instagram inspired us to add these copycat Levain Bakery chocolate chip cookies to our list of things to make this weekend!

Okay, I know I’m late to the party but I finally started watching Orange is the New Black. I loved the first two episodes,  but am sad to hear that most people aren’t enjoying the third season. Oh well, I guess I can at least enjoy the first two seasons until I get to season 3.

Most of us spend far too much time on smart phones, iPads and computers which is resulting in pinched nerves, muscle imbalances and neck pains. This helpful Daily Burn post will help you remedy your aches and pains!

Friday Favorites – June Edition #1

What an awesome week!

My friends did an incredible job ensuring I wasn’t lonely this week, while Bo started his new job in New York City.

Between sunset evenings by the lake and impromptu dinner dates, there was barely a spare moment. The challenge really helped ensure that I enjoyed the week and am closing out the work week with enough energy for an early morning run even after a wine-filled girls’ night.

Do you all have great plans for the weekend? Since it’s supposed to hit 90 degrees in Geneva, my weekend plans involve lots of time cooling off in the lake and possibly taking a paddle board out for an adventure. Otherwise I hope to make some healthy treats for Wednesday’s flight to NYC (!!!) and catch up on some reading and movie watching.

Enjoy this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including 10 recipes, articles, posts and other items that caught my eye this week.

We found out this morning that our temporary housing in NYC, during July and August, is literally next door to my accountability partner and best friend Theodora! What a fun coincidence since we didn’t even request that location!

Speaking of coincidence, it is included in this list of frequently misused words. I’m guilty of at least five of these! –> Thanks for sharing Tina!

Want to start running but don’t know how? Share this with any of your friends and family members who say they don’t know where to start!

After underestimating the strength of the sun last Sunday, my mom, dad and I all layered on Hawaiian Tropic After Sun lotion. Five days later none of us are peeling and the lightweight formula absorbs quickly without leaving me greasy and sticky!

Break the 2 Hour Half Marathon Mark is a great read for anyone training for a goal race, regardless the pace.

Mary and I have both told all our friends about this kale salad since making it together Tuesday night. I’ve given you fair warning – the dressing is so delicious you should make extra!
