Proud to be a Georgia Bulldawg

Greetings from the Geneva airport. This is my second time passing through the airport in less than 10 hours!

We landed here at 9:30 this morning, after a redeye from Atlanta, and I spent a quick few hours at home showering, unpacking, packing again, working, and taking a quick nap before heading back to the airport.

I’m heading to Madrid for customer meetings and will be there for less than 24 hours. I’m hoping that the combination of healthy eating, vitamins, NUUN, green juice, water, and 5.5 hours sleep on the red eye will help me push through the meetings tomorrow so I’m not a zombie. I’m so glad we stocked up on healthy flight essentials at Whole Foods yesterday on our way to the airport!

This weekend in Georgia was so much fun! It’s been years since Bo and I returned to Athens for a football weekend so the fact that the 40 Under 40 honor included tickets to the football game was such a fun addition. Any game between the hedges is fun but winning 66-0 versus Troy made the day that much sweeter! I stood, screaming and cheering, more than I sat which is always the sign of a great game. There were some incredible plays by the team, including Sony Michel and Todd Gurley.

As luck would have it, two of us who received the 40 Under 40 honor currently reside in Switzerland. Mai Lise and I were known as the “Swiss honorees” this weekend anytime someone was referring to us. I’m so thankful we were able to catch up back in Athens but it definitely reminded me that Bo and I need to head over to pay her a visit in Basel, as it’s supposed to be gorgeous! I also had the chance to catch up with my friend Kate who was one of my friends in 9th and 10th grade. We both graduated from UGA but hadn’t seen each other in years though through our blogs and social media we stay in touch quite regularly.

Thank you to the University of Georgia for providing us with with football tickets and the very special honor and memory of being recognized on the field! It was a truly wonderful day. I am so thankful to be part of the Georgia Bulldawg family!

We Don’t Sweat We Glisten

What a whirlwind 24 hours! Due to our busy travel schedule during May and June, we have done our best to reasonably cut costs whenever possible. One of the easiest ways is flying to weddings Saturday morning versus Friday night when we’re not part of the wedding party.

  • Less stress during the week.
  • No issues with missing work.
  • Cheaper flights.
  • Only one night at a hotel versus two.

This weekend we had the great joy of celebrating one of the last sorority weddings from my group of close Delta Gamma sorority sisters. Born and raised in Gray, Georgia we had no doubt that Chrissie’s wedding would be the perfect mix of South Georgia chic complete with a beautiful country setting and plenty of country music.

The setting, Plantation Farm, couldn’t have been more perfect complete with a chandelier laden barn, horse farm in the backdrop, rustic fences, and beautiful wide open spaces.

The only downside to the entire wedding celebration was the heat that greeted the guests for the ceremony. At 6:05 when the gorgeous bride was ushered down the aisle by her father, it was an oppressive 95 degrees!

That combined with barely any breeze or cloud cover made it quite the sweat fest. In fact, we were all glistening by the end of the ceremony.  The bride on the other hand, was radiant in a gorgeous, form fitting lace gown.

Some people knew how to keep cool in the heat better than others.

IMG_0642After saying “I do” the party moved to a cocktail hour while the bridal party took pictures against the rustic setting. This gave us plenty of time for pictures and some cool beer while we enjoyed passed chicken salad and freshly fried sweet potato fries!

Can you tell I’m a bit obsessed with Isabelle? She was definitely one of the highlights of last night’s wedding, especially since she was a trooper and lasted five hours without one tantrum!

Our next stop was the gorgeous barn, where the buffet dinner was located, which was decorated with beautiful hydrangeas, white lights and chandeliers!

IMG_0657 Due to the heat, I was craving fruit and salad more than anything else which is clear from my food choices. While I heard the twice baked potatoes were amazing that just seemed entirely too hot.

Don’t worry, the picture taking and glistening continued as the evening’s dance party started. The joke of the evening, even when sweat stains started to show on our light summer frocks, was that we are good Southern ladies who glisten, not sweat. I think the picture below, even after some minor editing, shows that we were certainly glistening! Where’s some pressed powder or blotting sheets when you need it?

Before long it was time to surround the bride and groom as they cut their cake. I love watching couples cut the cake as it shows a lot about their personalities. While these aren’t the best pictures I love the emotions and love that radiate from both Chrissie and John! It was impossible not to squeeze Bo’s hand as we watched another couple celebrate the night. The entire night was filled with love whether between friends, married couples, or that which radiated for Isabelle, our little passed party favor all night long!

IMG_0665 IMG_0666 IMG_0668 IMG_0669 IMG_0670 IMG_0673 Weddings have become our reunions over the years and we’ve been blessed to celebrate one every year since graduation. Luckily we still have a few more ladies to celebrate in the coming years but until then it’s time to start planning more beach vacations!

Thank you Chrissie and John for a wonderful country chic wedding celebration!

Four Girls, Two Husbands, and a Truck

Yeah, that’s how we do things in Georgia!

All joking aside, yesterday was a great day! We were all reunited yesterday for lunch and then an afternoon of shopping and catching up. Due to inclement weather warnings, we left memories of the pool behind for some retail therapy. The focus was on friendship and catching up versus shopping but we still found some good deals. Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and Victoria Secret’s 5 for $25 sale were pretty much the only deals we found. I found two colorful Nike Tempo shorts for $17.90 each which is $10 less than normal. Do new workout clothes make your workouts easier and more fun?

After shopping it was time to get wedding ready. As background, we all lived in the sorority house together during college so sharing a bathroom is something that is second nature for each of us. The new additions, Meghan and Rochelle’s husbands, got quite a kick out of the site.

Some of my best memories in college are getting ready with these ladies! Do you miss roommates if you had them in college? I miss free fashion advice and hair stylists.

And we’re off! Four girls, two boys, and one F250 extended cab!

I’m not going to lie. I think all four of us were surprised by the F-250’s space. We were tight but comfortable and our dresses arrived unwrinkled! Thanks Jason for driving!!

Brad and Alison were married in her home church, Gainesville First United Methodist Church. The wedding was lovely and the bridesmaids dresses were a gorgeous navy blue which blended with the pink peonies beautifully. Alison is an interior designer and you could see her touches throughout the wedding and reception. You could feel their love for each other throughout the entire ceremony as they smiled ear to ear. Weddings make me so happy as I feel they are the start of a new chapter in life for the couple.

The reception was held at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center which was the perfect venue. Blog Pictures 2010 680It was small enough that everyone could watch the bride and groom throughout the evening but had enough nearby hallways and open space that people could breathe and hear each other talk.

The decorations were simple yet elegant floral centerpieces while the art work provided most of the atmosphere and decoration. People really enjoyed exploring Quinlan and its’ art.

The happy bride and groom!

The grooms cake was definitely something to talk about!

The wedding cake was a light lemon cake with vanilla cream cheese frosting. Her bouquet made a gorgeous cake topper!

Best friend for seven years and counting! I’m so glad that we’ve been able to keep in touch and see each other at least once per year since college. Every time we’re together it is as if no time has passed!

Blog Pictures 2010 693 The rest of the evening was spent dancing, laughing, and of course checking out the food. Similar to my wedding, the food was heavy appetizers with a southern influence.
