Big News

Wonder why we’ve been spending so much time with our friends and family lately?

Well it’s official.

We’ve decided to take Renaud’s advice and enjoy mountain running more often. Remember the amazing images he captured back in February as we conquered Mount Saleve in Geneva?

Well, Bo and I will find ourselves running all over Europe for the next two years.

bye

As of July 1st, we’re trading in our metro cards and driver’s licenses for European work visas! Things are still very much in limbo over here as we spend our days working through the details of global expat (what is an expat) relocation with my company, Bo works through his new role, and we come to terms with saying “see you soon” to our amazing group of friends who have truly become a second family for us during our time in New York City.

This was one of those decisions that was both so easy and so difficult for us. Every day is an emotional rollercoaster for us, wondering whether we’ve made the right decision or if we’re plain crazy. But, more than one trusted source told us that not moving abroad when provided the opportunity was their greatest regret. So, with the amazing support of our parents and our desire to live life to the fullest and experience Europe together before settling down and having children, we’re holding hands and leaping into the future.

There are so many things to be scared of if we give ourselves time to worry: leaving our friends and family in the United States, traveling frequently, possibly living in different European cities Monday through Thursday, learning French, learning the metric system again, training for a marathon alone, being a bridesmaid in a wedding that’s 5,000 miles away, figuring out how to maintain a healthy lifestyle amidst all the delicious wine, bread, Swiss chocolate, and travels, being utterly overwhelmed, and failure.

But, instead, we are choosing to think of this as a great adventure which will likely fly by. Before we know it we’ll be talking about other things like children, returning to the states, and settling down. But, for now, we hope you’ll keep on reading A Healthy, Happier Bear and following along as we embark in a little bit of chaos and a lot of incredible as we fulfill our dream of living and working abroad!

Any expats out there? Would love your advice.

Piles of Cardboard+Paper+Ten Hours of Work= Exhaustion

This morning Bo and I woke up bright and early ready to take on the day of unpacking and moving in. We wanted to get as much done today as possible since tomorrow will include a few hours of celebration in the morning. We’re going to Forefront Church with Lauren and Casey before a birthday brunch to celebrate Lauren’s 26th birthday. We headed over to Starbucks for coffee and breakfast since our fridge was basically empty.
After this short but gorgeous walk our day consisted of 10 hours straight of unpacking boxes, breaking them down, recycling the paper filling each box, figuring out our apartment layout, and random trips to Bed, Bath and Beyond and the Container Store.
These are the only pictures I have thus far since I can’t find my camera cord in the mess. I’ll leave you with this exciting note though. My two favorite things about the apartment are at either end of our 710 square foot home; a 80 sq foot walk in closet with California Closet design and shelving and a HUGE walk in pantry also equipped with California Closet shelving! I’m in heaven after not having a pantry for the last year!
I’m so excited for this walk in closet! I even have a shelf for my yoga mat, weights, band, and DVDs!
Hope everyone had a lovely Saturday and good luck to all the ladies running the MORE Half Marathon tomorrow in Central Park. Melissa and I ran this together last year and sweated through the 13.1 miles since it was humid and over 85 degrees! At least this year promises to be cooler. 🙂
Bo and I are curling up on the sofa with an easy dinner and the first episode of Treme. Has anyone watched it?

Winner of my first giveaway!!

Today’s official post will come later today with news of my next giveaway, a product review, and more news! Life is crazy over in our world as we’re trying to balance moving, full time work schedule, and a wedding!

Last night we had great luck at Lowe’s choosing our paint colors! Even Bo and I were amazed that we were able to agree on colors for the living room/entry way and bedroom in less than five minutes! Since this will only be our apartment for a year or two, we went with Valspar paint and did not go for one of their high end brands. Both fathers were able to recommend that we go with eggshell finish ahead of time so that took any guess work out of the decision. We chose a gorgeous warm yellow/tan for the bedroom (almond glaze) and a cool green (lush meadow) for the living room/entrance. Since we are using my Pottery Barn desk as a cornerpiece in our living room we wanted a wall color that would match the bright white desk. The warm yellow should match our bedroom set perfectly!

Even though I’ve moved four times in the last four years, I always forget what a pain the random errands outside of the actual moving and packing are. For example, I’ve spent 45 minutes this morning changing all of our address information on credit cards, registries, bank accounts, USPS, etc and i’m still not done! It’s amazing how Bo thinks of all the big things but forgets the smaller yet even more important things like gym memberships and change of addresses. Speaking of gym membership, if anyone wants a NYSC Passport membership (allows you to use any Sports Club including Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and NYC) please let me know!

Okay, without further ado, congratulations
