Fall Fashion 2014 – Fabulous Sales

The last thing I want to do when Bo and I are back in the United States is spend time shopping. Don’t get me wrong, there was a time when I loved nothing more than spending the afternoon with a girlfriend shopping. After my first trip back the US last October where I spent nearly a half day looking for a pair of tall brown boots only to realize that finding a pair of wide calf size 11 boots in stock is virtually impossible, I’ve switched almost entirely to online shopping.

I have done very little shopping over the past year, instead choosing to spend money almost entirely on travel. But, my Fall wardrobe needs a few key pieces along with some pops of fun thanks to fluctuating sizes. I’ll never complain about losing weight or getting leaner, especially during marathon training, shopping can get expensive.

When I saw that three of my favorite stores (Nordstrom, JCrew Factory, Piperlime and Ann Taylor Loft)  were having Labor Day sales, I immediately clicked over and spent an hour last night perusing their sites. Below is what I ended up adding to my closet for Fall. What is on your wish list?

A Pop of Spring Color Outfit

Yesterday, just in time for an Easter trip to New Jersey, Spring finally graced us with it’s presence even if for just a few hours. The sun was shining brightly as we headed to the train station and it was warm enough that a light jacket and sweater was the only layers needed! Even though it was raining, in true April fashion, by the time we left New Jersey, it’s nice to know that Spring is finally here and freezing temperatures are behind us.

During this transitional month before it’s warm enough for skirts and summer dresses, I find myself wearing light weight sweaters and jeans for both casual weekend wear and lunch dates with friends alike. I love outfits like the one below because it can easily go from casual to an evening out with friends thanks to the classic lines, dark jeans, and fun accessories. Inspired by bright Easter eggs and the tulips I saw at the Union Square Farmers Market this weekend, this is a bit brighter than I’d normally tend to go but I love the mix! I wore the jeans, sweater and necklace yesterday for a fun Easter pop of color though my shoes and purse weren’t nearly as fun. However, thanks to a gift card burning in my pocket I just bought both the clutch and the flats!

The JCrew Outlet items are an additional 30% off for a limited time!

Favorite Things: Bold Colored Pumps!

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who has sent emails, text messages, tweets, and comments regarding last night’s post.  I can’t wait to share all your suggestions and ideas with my mom and dad! Keep them coming!

Now, onto a more fun and fashionable topic, color!

More than ever, I study the Fall fashion books each September trying to decide which of this year’s trends I’ll attempt and which I’ll pass altogether. I still haven’t decided how I feel about the flare pant or the collage this year. But, one trend that I love is BOLD COLORS. This trend can be intimidating at first but when incorporated into the wardrobe you already own through accessories, it becomes far more attainable and affordable. In my opinion, shoes in a fun, bold color are a perfect way to add an unexpected pop to any outfit!

A huge Piperlime fan, I scour the website on a weekly basis looking for their latest additions to the Girl On A Budget section. I fine that purchasing one to two pieces that support each trend during a season can easily convert a boring or outfit.

Last week, I saw these Nine West shoes in the Girl On A Budget section and fell in love.

They met all my requirements for a trendy item:

  • Positive reviews from other consumers. This pair in particular was given five out of five stars.
  • Under $100
    • Available in 1/2 sizes, even through 10 1/2

Knowing that many items run out quickly on Piperlime, I purchased them quickly since I could always return them.

THEY ARE AMAZING! I’ve worn them to work twice now, once with a plain black dress and the other time with a pair skinny pants and an animal print blouse. My co-workers and friends alike have professed their love and are amazed to hear that they were $89, are very comfortable, and are Nine West!

Available in black, purple, and gold sequin I highly recommend snagging your own pair in suede today. I can’t attest to the gold pair personally, but the picture online doesn’t make it very appealing.

What is your favorite way to add a pop of color to an outfit this season?
