Things i’m loving right now…

We’re heading down to Savannah tomorrow night for a weekend of Debutante Parties, wedding planning, a bridal shower, and hopefully some time in the sun. We’re both so excited about the trip and the mini 4 day break from work but that also means squeezing a TON of work into three days since a lot of people are taking next week off due to the holiday. I just walked in the door a few minutes ago and dinner just consisted of a banana, some leftover vegetables we prepared asian style last night, and a bit of Artisana Coconut Butter.

1) ARTISANA COCONUT BUTTER is the first thing i’m loving right now! HOLY YUM!! My awesome nutritionist gave me a few of these samples and i’m in love. I’ve mixed this one into morning oats, enjoyed on a banana like I did tonight, and even eaten plain. The best thing is the portion control. I’ve enjoyed this lil jar six or seven times so far and the ENTIRE jar is only 93 calories and 9 grams of fat according to the label. I would love more of these sample jars so I may review the whole line in case anyone from Artisana is reading this! 🙂

After wearing my ultra light Aasics out while training for two half marathons I knew it was time for some new shoes. While many people don’t love Nike for distance training I love them because they are soft, light, and super cushiony. I’m willing to buy new shoes every 250 miles versus 400 if it means enjoying every step. I also am not going to lie- I love the pink! I found these shoes, adorable shorts, and top on sale at Road Runner Sports this week and even enjoyed free shipping! Maybe these will incent me to run outside in the crazy weather this weekend down in Savannah and then back up here in NYC versus the dreadmill!

I can’t review the products yet as I should probably receive them when we’re down South but I’m so stinking excited I can’t contain it! I’m not a huge fan of the current protein powder we purchased- a 2lb container to boot- since it was on sale on Amazon. It is very blah. We bought Research Proven Designer Whey in Vanilla hoping it’d be a yummy french vanilla but really it just tastes like odd water and is not thick at all! Maybe i’ll hide Jay Robb at work and not even let Bo know we received it so he’ll finish the 2lb container. Or, this is when I could get over my frugality issues and let us throw it away since we don’t like it and just enjoy the amazing JAY ROBB COUPON that they have allowed me to share with readers! The code is BLOGJ9HHB and is redeemable on orders of all Jay Robb products purchased directly from Jay Robb Enterprises (via phone or at www.JayRobb.com). The code coupon is attached and is valid though July 7, 2009.

Okay kids. I’m out like a light since tomorrow is MY LAST DAY DRIVING TO HARRISBURG PENNSYLVANIA FROM NEW YORK CITY FOR WORK! I am SO TIRED OF THE SEVEN HOUR DRIVE DAYS!

It’s National Running Day!

Happy National Running Day!

I’m looking forward to a great fun run this evening with the wonderful Ashley from Culinary Wannabee. She invited Bo and I to join she and her friends in the NYRR Young Professional’s Committee and Team for Kids Fun Run and Happy Hour. This should be a great opportunity for us to meet some fellow runners and enjoy the park on a weeknight. It’s rare that either of us workout in the evening so tonight should be a nice change. In NYC alone, there are 8 different group runs today to honor National Running Day!

Today’s events have made me realize how much my life has changed over the last few years. I only started running four years ago. Four years ago I weighed 190 lbs and had never been able to run for more than a minute or two in my life. I was always that kid who avoided the mile run test like the plague and blamed my poor athletic endurance on exercise enduced asthma. Don’t get me wrong, i’m sure many people suffer from this, but I now know that I was not one of them. I was just lazy and overweight. The summer before my senior year of college I decided I wanted to change things. Per my mom’s suggestion, I left my ego at the door and joined my first WW meeting while I was an intern in Philadelphia. After my first meeting the leader suggested that I start by not only tracking my food but also moving more. I was in shock. Who was she to tell me I needed to move more? For over a year I had been waking up bright and early to workout at the gym. But, back then, workout meant 30 minutes on the elliptical and nothing else. Clearly that plan wasn’t working. I decided right then that I wanted to be a runner. I’d always envied my other friends who participated in 5k and then proceeded to sport their shirts around campus.

Coincidentally, as I look back at my WW book and journals, I realized that four years ago yesterday I stepped on the treadmill ready to run. I started by running for 30 seconds and walking for 30 minutes. The next day I ran for 1 minute and walked for 29. I kept with this until I could run at 5.0 for 30 minutes. I was so proud when that day came! I was finally becoming a runner, or maybe I should have more properly call myself a jogger. Regardless, I loved the feeling and the pride that accompanied my new found elliptical replacement.

Over the course of this week i’ll continue my running story and hopefully news about my next running goal. Bo and I have both signed up for the 2009 ING NYC Marathon lottery and find out TOMORROW if we received bib numbers! I’m so nervous and excited!

I hope you have a great day and use today as your inspiration to baby step your way to jogging. One minute of running is headway in the right direction. If you need, use Missy for inspiration as she is starting down the path of becoming a runner and is doing a great job!

Oh my gosh has it really been four days?!

I apologize profusely for my stint away from the blog. This week included a work trip that became much busier than I ever expected. Here is what you can expect to see tomorrow:
1) An awesome healthier pad thai recipe
2) Capital Grille review
3) Amtrak dining options- WOW!
4) Brooklyn Half Marathon Race Recap- even with THREE bathroom stops (in the woods) and having to wait at two water stations since they were out of water I lowered my time by 2 minutes according to NYRR since the MORE and 4 mins and 20 seconds based on my watch (I stopped it while I was waiting for water at the two stations)!! I still have a long way to go but i’m moving in the right direction!
5) NIKE running top review and running with a hat
See you guys tomorrow! Bo and I are off to our first rooftop party of the season and the weather is gorgeous!
