Health Magazine Girl’s Night Out: Something Borrowed Screening

This evening I played hooky. I left work at 5pm on the dot, two hours earlier than normal, even though I had a few stray things on my to do list. I closed my computer, organized my to-do list, and dragged a few of my co-workers out with me.

We had places to go and people to see!

IMG_1890 (640x478)Want to know one benefit to being an Equinox member? I still read physical magazines each month, while recovering on the elliptical or incline walking on the treadmill. Last month, I saw that Health magazine was hosting a Girl’s Night Out premiere of the new movie, Something Borrowed. This was one of the books I listened to during marathon training and it therefore holds a special place in my heart. I have also been excited about this movie ever since I saw them filming outside our building!

IMG_1889 (640x478) The four of us joined the line at 5:45 outside the Tribecca Cinema, home to Tribeca Film Festival just a week earlier, for an evening of girly fun and laughter.

IMG_1891 (640x478) We spent the next hour sipping, tasting, and laughing our way through the “health” themed cocktail reception.

Coffee martinis were served for those looking for a caffeine boost.

The event’s sponsors each had a booth where we could try a sample of their product or enter a raffle.

Our favorite tables were the 8 under 80 and Aasics!

Staffers filled small goodie bags with our choice of 8 different candies, each under 80 calories per serving. Now, I will say that they didn’t give us 3 chocolate covered pretzels or 3 Swedish fish, each of which are the 80 calorie portion. However, I did use some self control and limit myself to 8 Swedish fish and 3 chocolate covered pretzels. After all, I had to make sure my stomach didn’t growl during the movie, right?

IMG_1895 (640x478) If I win the free Aasics and customized insoles I’ll be a lucky an very happy lady!

IMG_1896 (640x478) At 7pm, we were ushered into the theatre for the special viewing of Something Borrowed, the new movie based on Emily Giffin’s best selling novel.

Without ruining the movie, I’ll share the following:

  • I think it was perfectly cast! In fact, when I listened to the book this summer, I thought that Kate Hudson would make a perfect Darcy.
  • Ginnifer Goodwin’s wig is horrible and my girlfriend’s and I spent half the movie cursing the hair and bangs.
  • John Krasinski is a scene stealer in this film!
  • Colin Eggelsfield reminded all of us of Cocktail/Top Gun Tom Cruise, aka before he went crazy. (I think this is his breakout role as all I can find on his imdb resume is lots of soap opera episodes.)
  • We laughed throughout the entire film, but it also makes you think long and hard about the line between right and wrong.
  • I highly recommend getting a group of your girlfriends together one evening next week, on a school night even, and leaving work a few minutes early to grab dinner or a cocktail before and then relax with this movie. It makes the perfect girl’s date!

Who Was Your First Celebrity Crush?

I apologize for my lack of post yesterday. I was in Cincinnati on business travel and didn’t get back to my hotel room until 8pm to begin completing my REGULAR work. I had the opportunity to spend an entire day brainstorming with some wonderful people within my company but it was definitely work that falls under the extracurricular area. Do you have the opportunity to work on any extracurricular projects in your current job?

I walked in the door a few minutes ago after a long day at the office. I flew back this morning on the 6:30am flight from Cincinnati in hopes of being at my desk by 10am. FAIL.

Obama’s visit to NYC meant that the road were already shutdown and traffic was backed up all the way to Queens. It took an hour and 15 minutes to reach the office from LaGuardia. Oh well. Luckily I was sitting comfortably in a black car reading my latest novel, Something Borrowed.   This happens to be the same movie that is being filmed in my neighborhood! I saw Kate Hudson the other day in my building and then found out via some research and googling that she is the star. A perfect fit!

Today’s food was all over the place but overall enjoyable. Starbuck’s Perfect Oatmeal has become my go-to breakfast when I’m in an airport as it’s easy, safe, and very portable.

I enjoyed this with only a quarter of the fixins and a venti iced unsweetened Green tea. Absolutely delicious!

The rest of today’s eats included the usual Toasties salad and dinner was some delicious brown rice sushi while finishing work. I think i’ve finally found my favorite “whole in the wall” sushi place as the fish was fresh, the brown rice was in perfect proportion, and they included plenty of ginger. Tonight I enjoyed 3/4 of a Rainbow Brown Rice roll and an eel roll. Scrumptious!

Now, it’s time for Three Questions Thursday ala Iowa Girl!

1. Do you believe in ghosts? Believe it or not I really do. I think that spirits can stay behind. But I really don’t spend much time thinking about them.

2. Who was your first celebrity crush? Patrick Swayze, Dirty Dancing, black jeans, and a tree across the stream. Need I say more? 🙂

3. What’s your biggest pet peeve? People who aren’t hard workers. My parents raised both my brother and I with a very strong work ethic.

How about you? What are your answers?

Okay, it’s time for bed as I have 6 miles on the docket before a long day of meetings. Do you have anything fun planned this weekend? I have a Soul Cycle spin class Saturday morning compliments of the fabulous Fit Chick In The City, a playground build up in Harlem with the NY Junior League, a long run of at least 10 miles, and hopefully dinner with some friends.

Happy Friday!
