Dare to Bare NYC

Over the past seven years, I have been invited to a number of events and workouts but none have left me as inspired and energized as Sunday’s Dare to Bare NYC event.

Part of the Movemeant Foundation, Dare to Bare is a national movement that asks women a simple but important question:

“What if we DARE to overcome the insecurities we have about our bodies? What if we instead chose to BARE our vulnerabilities in an effort to conquer them? Could we reveal the most powerful version of ourselves? ”

What started years ago as a charity fitness event in NYC is now a year-round movement to help women of all ages find self confidence. However, the Dare to Bare NYC is just as powerful and inspiring as it was when it started. Imagine taking a Soul Cycle or other group fitness class, surrounded by women of all shapes and sizes, in one of NYC’s busiest spaces.  The message was all about self-love, finding your inner strength and having the confidence to bare your body as you worked out versus linking self-love to the number on a label or scale.

Notice the sea of neon in these pictures? Each participant was gifted a complimentary Sweaty Betty Infinity Workout Bra to wear during the event.  This neon bra not only has a fun, detailed back but is also comfortable, supportive and has molded cups to provide shape.

As we explored the event area we saw many familiar faces –Dani, Nicole & Michelle.  There were multiple group fitness classes including dance, yoga and HIIT as well as refreshments from Bluestone Lane and an adorable Sweaty Betty pop-up shop. At 11 AM Ashley and I stripped down to our sports bras and found bikes 23 and 24 for the Soul Cycle ride. Talk about an inspiring ride!

Dare to Bare 2016 NYC

We had the opportunity to ride with three Soul Cycle rock stars ( Amanda Max, Jenny Gaither (SF), Melanie Griffith) who I have now marked as favorites in my Soul Cycle app.

Their music, mantras and energy pushed and inspired each of us in ways we didn’t imagine. By the end we were cheering, giving strangers high fives and celebrating each other. The energy was contagious!

If you haven’t experienced Dare to Bare in New York or San Francisico, I highly recommend you add it to your calendar for next year. Get a group of friends together, raise money for a great cause and then spend the day sweating and smiling together with hundreds of other women!

Friday Favorites – September 23rd, 2016

Soul Cycle Rooster Class

We made it to Friday! That hilarious picture is a snap from the Boomerang I posted of us doing the FriYAY dance following this morning’s Soul Cycle class. It was a long week work-wise but a great week personally. I find that as long as I prioritize disconnecting, even for just 30 minutes, and working out during a busy week I am far more productive the rest of the day. As you’ll see from some of my favorites this week, there was lots of friend-filled workouts which made for a lot of fun. This weekend is busier than the past few as Bo and I have date night tonight, tomorrow I’m driving to West Chester, Pennsylvania for a friend’s bridal shower and then Sunday I have 10-miles on my schedule. I’m so excited to see that temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s on Sunday. Fall is finally here!

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • I love Soul Cycle but don’t go as often as I’d like due to the price and the fact that it isn’t available on ClassPass. I have a five-class pack which I’ve enjoyed using for random friend dates. This morning Heather, her husband Scott and I met for Liz’s Brooklyn Heights Friday Rooster class. I loved her playlist which included Beyonce and some old school Ashanti.
  • These pumpkin protein pancakes will be delicious following my 10-mile run Sunday morning!
  • When I work from home, busy days call for an easy lunch. Lately I’ve been having soup paired with an apple and almond butter for lunch. This soup looks like a great recipe to whip up on a Sunday and enjoy all week.
  • I’ve been wearing this tank constantly and loving it’s breathability, pockets and support! Since it’s on sale, grab it quick before it sells out!
  • As you guys saw on Instagram, I joined Theodora, Heather and Leslie for a relaxing event with Chico’s on Monday night. Chico’s invited us to experience their Zenergy clothing line by wearing it while flowing through a restorative yoga class taught by Colleen Saidman, the founder of Yoga Shanti.  The wrap and leggings were so comfortable that I wore them while working from home earlier this week and can already tell that they will become a staple in my athleisure and yoga collection. Chicos
  • Our Citibike membership has been a game changer! We joined just two weeks ago and we already have found ourselves using it on a daily basis, whether heading to a workout class that is 1-2 miles away or running errands. If you haven’t tried it yet, use this code to get a free month!
  • It’s finally time to start wearing my favorite fall and winter fragrance.
  • I’m so in love with this week’s nail polish color that I bought the polish so I can take care of chips myself!
  • Topped with sage and served alongside perfect roast chicken, this five ingredient Fall pasta dish looks delicious.
  • If you’re in NYC, this Well+Good event looks like it will be a great way to enjoy a workout with friends. Anyone have plans to participate? Some of these combinations sound killer, like Shadowbox + The Fhitting Room!
  • Leave it to Rachel to develop a healthier version of Green Goddess salad that looks almost too delicious to eat!
  • I don’t know if I can pull this off, but I love the idea of pairing this cream sweater with skinny dark jeans, leopard heels and a black turtleneck.

Your turn – Did you watch any new Fall television shows this week? If so, which one was your favorite?

Scenes from the Weekend – January 10th

You will quickly see that this weekend consisted primarily of working out and eating homemade carbohydrates like this delicious, made from scratch margarita pizza.  Life is all about balance right?

Our friends knew the perfect way to warm us up on a cold night was a bowl of French Onion soup. Too bad the soup took hours to make but just minutes to enjoy.

My first Soul Survivor ride was nothing short of perfect. The 60-minute class left me sweaty, inspired and wanting to book a seat in another survivor class next weekend!

Make this sticky toffee pudding for dessert immediately and thank us later. We brought it to two separate dinner parties this weekend and it was a hit at both! Delicious, indulgent and easy to make!

After all the delicious carbs we enjoyed this weekend, it’s a wonder I was able to fit in the bridesmaids dress I tried on yesterday! I can’t believe Meg and Russell’s big day is just four months away!

This morning’s avocado toast was perfect, especially when served with a steaming cup of coffee.

I spent an hour in the kitchen tonight, experimenting with smoothie recipes and working on my photography skills. It was such a fun way to spend a rainy, Sunday evening.

Now it’s time to say goodnight to the fun and get ready for a busy, workout filled week. We’re sticking with our goals of no wine until Friday, clean food and daily workouts! Have a wonderful night!
