We Don’t Sweat We Glisten

What a whirlwind 24 hours! Due to our busy travel schedule during May and June, we have done our best to reasonably cut costs whenever possible. One of the easiest ways is flying to weddings Saturday morning versus Friday night when we’re not part of the wedding party.

  • Less stress during the week.
  • No issues with missing work.
  • Cheaper flights.
  • Only one night at a hotel versus two.

This weekend we had the great joy of celebrating one of the last sorority weddings from my group of close Delta Gamma sorority sisters. Born and raised in Gray, Georgia we had no doubt that Chrissie’s wedding would be the perfect mix of South Georgia chic complete with a beautiful country setting and plenty of country music.

The setting, Plantation Farm, couldn’t have been more perfect complete with a chandelier laden barn, horse farm in the backdrop, rustic fences, and beautiful wide open spaces.

The only downside to the entire wedding celebration was the heat that greeted the guests for the ceremony. At 6:05 when the gorgeous bride was ushered down the aisle by her father, it was an oppressive 95 degrees!

IMG_0634

That combined with barely any breeze or cloud cover made it quite the sweat fest. In fact, we were all glistening by the end of the ceremony.  The bride on the other hand, was radiant in a gorgeous, form fitting lace gown.

Some people knew how to keep cool in the heat better than others.

IMG_0642After saying “I do” the party moved to a cocktail hour while the bridal party took pictures against the rustic setting. This gave us plenty of time for pictures and some cool beer while we enjoyed passed chicken salad and freshly fried sweet potato fries!

Can you tell I’m a bit obsessed with Isabelle? She was definitely one of the highlights of last night’s wedding, especially since she was a trooper and lasted five hours without one tantrum!

Our next stop was the gorgeous barn, where the buffet dinner was located, which was decorated with beautiful hydrangeas, white lights and chandeliers!

IMG_0657 Due to the heat, I was craving fruit and salad more than anything else which is clear from my food choices. While I heard the twice baked potatoes were amazing that just seemed entirely too hot.

IMG_0664

Don’t worry, the picture taking and glistening continued as the evening’s dance party started. The joke of the evening, even when sweat stains started to show on our light summer frocks, was that we are good Southern ladies who glisten, not sweat. I think the picture below, even after some minor editing, shows that we were certainly glistening! Where’s some pressed powder or blotting sheets when you need it?

Before long it was time to surround the bride and groom as they cut their cake. I love watching couples cut the cake as it shows a lot about their personalities. While these aren’t the best pictures I love the emotions and love that radiate from both Chrissie and John! It was impossible not to squeeze Bo’s hand as we watched another couple celebrate the night. The entire night was filled with love whether between friends, married couples, or that which radiated for Isabelle, our little passed party favor all night long!

IMG_0665 IMG_0666 IMG_0668 IMG_0669 IMG_0670 IMG_0673 Weddings have become our reunions over the years and we’ve been blessed to celebrate one every year since graduation. Luckily we still have a few more ladies to celebrate in the coming years but until then it’s time to start planning more beach vacations!

Thank you Chrissie and John for a wonderful country chic wedding celebration!

Eat Drink and Be Married: Leslie and Charles’ Big Day

IMG_3684Yesterday Bo and I had the honor of attending Leslie and Charles wedding yesterday. The fact that the wedding was at Villanova, where Bo went for graduate school, made the day even more fun!

IMG_2305 (640x478)Our group cleaned up very well for the wedding and in record time, considering that there were six of us who had to shower and get ready for the event.

IMG_6193.JPG

Before we left, Meghann and I had some fun with Sabrina’s baby belly and baby blocks.

IMG_3615 IMG_3619 Clearly, I’m more than a little excited for Sabrina and Philly Boy’s bambino.

We even travelled to the wedding in style! Bo and I rented a Tahoe yesterday so we could all ride to the wedding and reception together and not worry about drinking since Sabrina volunteered to be our designated driver.

As soon as we arrived at Villanova, it was clear that Leslie’s anti-rain dances and planning paid off. There wasn’t a single cloud in the sky, the temperatures were perfect, and the sun was shining!

IMG_2290 (640x478) The Villanova Cathedral was simpler than other cathedrals I’ve been in but that simplicity added to the wedding’s beauty. The bright white interior was warm with excitement and glowing with happiness as we entered. IMG_2291 (640x478)We were all commenting on the church’s simple decor and beautiful flowers as the organ music began.

IMG_6201.JPG

It’s time to get the wedding started!

IMG_2297 (640x478) We were in the back row which ended up being a perfect position to see everyone enter and leave. Leslie’s mom was already in tears before the wedding started but Charles and his parents looked happy and calm.

The bridesmaid’s dresses were adorable on each and everyone of their shapes and sizes. The bright blue was the color of the flowers and hydrangeas and the neckline meant that the girls didn’t have to worry about necklaces or much other jewelry. Instead, the each had simple pearl drop earrings and matching floral heels. This little attention to detail and feminine touches were so very Leslie!

Within minutes, the doors opened and Leslie’s glow filled the church.

IMG_6228.JPG

Within minutes, Charles and Leslie went from best friends to husband and wife!

Another added detail was the bubble and mascot exit that greeted them when they left the church!

IMG_6235 (640x427) (640x427) IMG_6242 (640x427) (640x427) IMG_6253.JPGIMG_2310 (640x478)

After the new couple exited we took advantage of the sunshine for an impromptu photo opportunity!  IMG_3670IMG_6273 (427x640) (427x640) IMG_6278 (640x427) (640x427) Since their wedding was at 1:30 and the reception didn’t begin until 5:30, we decided that getting a light lunch was the best way to kill time. Luckily, Bo and I were more than happy to show the gang around Wayne!

IMG_6283 (640x427) (640x427) IMG_2319 (640x478) IMG_2314 (478x640)We tried Matador, a new restaurant in Wayne which features delicious Mexican food and drinks. We also decided that the best way to continue the celebration was to toast to the new couple!

IMG_6286 (640x427) (640x427)

After great debate, I chose a lighter dish, the traditional gazpacho, enjoyed with a side of fresh chips and guacamole.

IMG_2317 (640x478) IMG_2315 (640x478) The food was absolutely delicious but unfortunately, the service upstairs was a little slow. Regardless, I wish Matador had been around when I lived in Wayne. The one thing the area was always missing was a delicious Mexican restaurant.

At 5pm, we headed down to West Chester for the reception. None of us knew what to expect since Leslie hadn’t shared many reception details but we knew that it would be classy and definitely fun!

IMG_6303.JPG

We were breathless as we drove up the long dirt road to the Greystone Hall. We started the cocktail hour off with one of their signature cocktails.

IMG_2321 (640x478) IMG_2323 (478x640) I tried the Something Borrowed which was supposed to be a mix of an Arnold Palmer and mojito but I wasn’t a fan of the mix unfortunately. It was a little too sweet for my taste.

IMG_6311.JPG

The grounds were gorgeous and gave everyone plenty of room to socialize.

IMG_2324 (640x478) IMG_6322.jpg

Unlike most weddings, the bride and groom were able to enjoy their cocktail hour due to the time between the ceremony and reception!

IMG_6331.JPG

I loved seeing Leslie in all her glory and having a chance to spend time with the lovely blogger ladies: from L to R Melissa, me, Leslie, Sabrina, Lauren, and Meghann!

The dinner was seated and Leslie was kind enough to put us all together at one table!

IMG_2333 (640x478) IMG_2329 (640x478) You can be assured that there were plenty of pictures, food conversations, and laughs that took place with all of us at one table. It’s also amazing how well our men got along since it was the first time they were all hanging out together!

IMG_6354.jpg

Dinner started with a spinach salad adorned with red onions, cucumbers, and a crisp.

IMG_2331 (640x478)

I enjoyed the salmon for my main course which was perfectly cooked and topped with a sweet mango salsa! It was definitely one of the best wedding main dinners I’ve enjoyed!

IMG_2336 (640x478)Bo chose the steak which was better than expected though it took three tries to get one that was medium or medium rare versus well done.

IMG_2337 (640x478)After the speeches and toasts it was time to get the party started! The next three hours were filled with picture booth fun, dance floor singing, and lots of laughter.

IMG_6446 (640x427) IMG_6456 (640x427) IMG_6463 (640x427) IMG_6467 (640x427) We may not have looked good doing it but we enjoyed every second of the evening. Their band was fabulous and kept the energy high and dance floor filled.

Before we knew it the bouquet was being tossed. Unfortunately, my favorite single lady didn’t catch the bouquet but luckily she was okay with the outcome.

IMG_6481 (427x640) IMG_6483 (640x427)This wedding could not have been more perfect. Each family was smiling ear to ear and beaming the entire night while the lucky couple were in each other’s arms as they greeted guests. Bo and I saw Leslie and Charles in every detail of the reception and ceremony.  We couldn’t be happier for our friends who are so perfect for each other. Leslie’s humor and outgoing personality complements Charles’ calm and loving nature. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Brinkley!!

Four Girls, Two Husbands, and a Truck

Yeah, that’s how we do things in Georgia!

All joking aside, yesterday was a great day! We were all reunited yesterday for lunch and then an afternoon of shopping and catching up. Due to inclement weather warnings, we left memories of the pool behind for some retail therapy. The focus was on friendship and catching up versus shopping but we still found some good deals. Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and Victoria Secret’s 5 for $25 sale were pretty much the only deals we found. I found two colorful Nike Tempo shorts for $17.90 each which is $10 less than normal. Do new workout clothes make your workouts easier and more fun?

After shopping it was time to get wedding ready. As background, we all lived in the sorority house together during college so sharing a bathroom is something that is second nature for each of us. The new additions, Meghan and Rochelle’s husbands, got quite a kick out of the site.

Some of my best memories in college are getting ready with these ladies! Do you miss roommates if you had them in college? I miss free fashion advice and hair stylists.

And we’re off! Four girls, two boys, and one F250 extended cab!

Blog Pictures 2010 678 Blog Pictures 2010 677

I’m not going to lie. I think all four of us were surprised by the F-250’s space. We were tight but comfortable and our dresses arrived unwrinkled! Thanks Jason for driving!!

Brad and Alison were married in her home church, Gainesville First United Methodist Church. The wedding was lovely and the bridesmaids dresses were a gorgeous navy blue which blended with the pink peonies beautifully. Alison is an interior designer and you could see her touches throughout the wedding and reception. You could feel their love for each other throughout the entire ceremony as they smiled ear to ear. Weddings make me so happy as I feel they are the start of a new chapter in life for the couple.

The reception was held at the Quinlan Visual Arts Center which was the perfect venue. Blog Pictures 2010 680It was small enough that everyone could watch the bride and groom throughout the evening but had enough nearby hallways and open space that people could breathe and hear each other talk.

Blog Pictures 2010 696

The decorations were simple yet elegant floral centerpieces while the art work provided most of the atmosphere and decoration. People really enjoyed exploring Quinlan and its’ art.

The happy bride and groom!

The grooms cake was definitely something to talk about!

Blog Pictures 2010 691 Yes, that is a Krispy Kreme donut tower drizzled with milk chocolate!

The wedding cake was a light lemon cake with vanilla cream cheese frosting. Her bouquet made a gorgeous cake topper!

Best friend for seven years and counting! I’m so glad that we’ve been able to keep in touch and see each other at least once per year since college. Every time we’re together it is as if no time has passed!

Blog Pictures 2010 693 The rest of the evening was spent dancing, laughing, and of course checking out the food. Similar to my wedding, the food was heavy appetizers with a southern influence.
