Friday Favorites – Fall Fashion Essentials

in-nyc

Happy Friday!

I wanted to do something a bit different for this week’s Friday Favorites. Instead of sharing recipes, articles and other items that I am loving this week, I am going to focus on my Fall fashion essentials. These are the items that I look forward to wearing each Fall, year after year. These are the pieces that are always at the front of my closet or on my top shoe rack. Regardless how long I’ve owned the pieces, I seem to fall more in love with them each year.

As you guys know, I tend to focus more on quality over quantity, streamlining my closet over the past few years. Some of these pieces are what I consider to be investment pieces. Their initial cost was a bit of a sticker shock but once I realized that I would wear them for years to come, their style and quality convinced me to purchase. Some of the items on the other hand, are so reasonably priced that I own either multiple pairs or own the piece in a few different colors.  If I think about the outfits I’ve worn for meetings, dinners and social events over the past month almost every outfit includes at least one of the below items. My style tends to be Northeastern preppy, especially in the Fall months with a hint of edge thanks to the inspiration I find in New York City.

In no particular order, here are the twelve pieces I look forward to wearing and styling each Fall season. The below list includes the link to the actual product I own as well as a few similar options.

Your turn – What is your favorite piece of clothing each Fall?

Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored and instead is a list of the things of my favorite things this week. As normal, it includes lots of beauty and fashion items which means there are a few affiliate links via ShopStyle. It takes time and money to maintain a blog so I thank you for the support and few cents that come from clicking through the links!

Faux Fur and Cabernet

Fall has arrived in New York City which means that packing for this trip was a joy! I’ve been yearning to break out my Fall clothes, both new and old alike, but Geneva’s temperate weather and Indian Summer has not provided the opportunity. It’s still 10 degrees warmer in Geneva than here in New York City or even Savannah, Georgia for that matter. Absolutely crazy, right? When people hear I live in Switzerland they imagine a polar vortex all winter long when in reality we rarely see snow in Geneva due to the geography and lake.

IMG_2767[1]Choosing my outfit for yesterday’s day of meetings with old co-workers and agency partners inspired me to go a bit out of my comfort zone. New York inspires me to try things I wouldn’t previously try as there is always someone on the street trying something crazier. Whereas in Geneva things tend to be a bit more conservative, I am always inspired to add a little glam or edge to my look when I’m back in the Big Apple. This certainly wasn’t always true when I lived here but for now, I’m embracing the inspiration. If only I knew how to model for these pictures without looking like a complete idiot. Oh well. I guess I’ll stick to travel and fitness blogging.

Fall Outfit of the Day As soon as I posted yesterday’s outfit of the day (#ootd) on Instagram people immediately wanted more details. When you guys speak, I do my best to listen! Therefore, today’s post is dedicated to helping you put together a similar look. Each of these pieces was on sale over the past couple of weeks meaning that creating the look was far less expensive than normal.

Welcoming Fall Outfit of the DayWhile you can definitely wait until the holiday sales begin to snag these pieces at a discount, I will say that the Mira Heel is one of the most comfortable yet flattering heels I’ve worn and the faux fur vest is absolute perfection and in true Zara fashion, will most likely sell out quickly.

What’s your take on faux fur? Yay or nay?

Fashion: Paris, je t’aime

I can’t believe it is already Monday! This week is going to fly by as I’m looking forward to a big trip this weekend – our four year wedding anniversary in Paris!

We have a number of plans while we’re in the city including the Eiffel Tower, Rodin Museum, Musee d’Orsay, an 8 mile running tour through the city with Paris Running tours, and a special dinner on Saturday night at Lasserre. It will be a weekend to remember, that is for sure!

In honor of the trip, I thought I’d share what I plan to wear Saturday night for our celebratory dinner. I tend to be more comfortable wearing skinny, dark jeans and sparkly tank tops out on the town, but in honor of Paris and the romantic backdrop, I decided to go a bit more glam this weekend.

Paris Anniversary

My favorite Bauble Bar Original Pave Links bracelet (on sale for $58 – affiliate link)

Tom Ford Violet Blonde Perume – a sultry, feminine perfume perfect for a winter evening $72

Alice+Olivia Natalia Scalloped Lace Fit & Flare Dress – a perfect delicate yet sexy number equally appropriate for an anniversary dinner and 30th birthday fete $396

Dolce&Gabbana Passion Duo Gloss Fusion Lipstick in Sensual $35 is perfect for any hour

A sexy, smoky eye compliments of this tutorial and my favorite mascara for a night out on the town

Black sexy, strappy heels from Zara (sold out but here is a similar pair)
