Chamonix Ski Weekend

If you follow me on Instagram then you know that we spent the weekend skiing our hearts out in Chamonix, France this weekend with a group of our friends.

We rented an incredible chalet via AirBnB which included a sauna, hot tub, huge kitchen, and roaring fireplace all brought together in a perfect mix of modern and rustic ski chalet.

We started the weekend off on Thursday night as I took Friday off to enjoy a day of skiing with Joel, Casey and Bo before the rest of the group arrived Friday evening.

We were blessed with perfect snow conditions and weather on the slopes each day as we skied above the clouds, surrounded by sunshine and blue skies! Our last run of the day reminded us that the slopes in France are VERY different than the US or Switzerland in that the grading system for slopes seem to make no sense at all. Our last run which was a red, or US black, ended up having moguls and taking us into deep powder.

One of the nice things about Chamonix is that it is a large valley which means you can explore different ski areas each day. By the end of the weekend we explored Les Houches, Brevant and Flegere and Le Tour. Brevant and Flegere were the most challenging while Les Houches was the most pleasing to the eye, due to the mix of snow covered pines and pristine, snow covered slopes. Even though our group included skiers of all levels, we were able to meet up multiple times on the slopes for runs together.

We tried four restaurants this weekend in Chamonix ranging from top of the slope grilled meats (Lโ€™Adret de la Flegere), gigantic burgers (MBC Mircrobrewery & Pub), Asian French fusion (Munchie), traditional ski in ski out French cuisine (Restaurant Les Vieilles Luges).

Why do weekends like this have to end? At least I left the slopes with one final reminder, hair icicles!

This makes me soooooooooo jealous – I loved my trip to Chamonix! That was one of my favorite vacations ever and the food I ate there was INCREDIBLE.

I can’t wait to discover the areas out West Laura where I’ve never skied before. You’ll have to recommend places when we finally plan a trip out West!

Love it! I haven’t been skiing in a long time, as a kid my family and friends would go to Vail for a long weekend. The asian french fusion restaurant sounds fabulous!!

Katie that restaurant was AMAZING! I’m still thinking about the sriacha cod!

BEST weekend ever. I’m a Tahoe gal having grown up with that as the closest mountain but I LOVE Vail and Breck in Colorado and Deer Valley in Park City. Zermatt in Switzerland too. I love them all. Also – those Sorel slippers are my life on ski weekends. Also also once I saw that white bean chicken chili I knew I needed it in my life and we made Giada’s tonight. Looks like a great time!

I can’t wait to try some of the West Coast skiing. Zermatt was a wonderful weekend though it is SO hard to get to from Geneva! We are actually posting the white bean chili recipe tonight! ๐Ÿ™‚

OMG, it looks like perfect ski weather there!! I want to ski in Chamonix someday. We are having totally crap ski weather this winter, which is a bummer, but I can’t ski anyway this year. Hopefully, next year!

    • ashleyd February 9, 2015 / 8:15 am

That stinks that you all aren’t having good ski weather this year. Hopefully you’ll be back on the slopes next year!

Totally not a skier, but I wish I was just because the views you get are incredible. Sounds like a great weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow. Those mountains are AWESOME. The accommodations look super comfortable, and it looks like you had a lot of fun.

I have been skiing 4 times, and I live in Colorado. It’s pretty fun, and my favorite resort is probably Copper Mountain here.

    • ashleyd February 9, 2015 / 3:46 pm

The accommodations were beyond comfortable! I’m still dreaming of that sauna post hot tub!

I just can’t ski. It’s a brain defect somehow. I think because it requires things like “grace” and “balance”. But those views are stunning! I’m definitely missing out!

    • ashleyd February 9, 2015 / 3:45 pm

Haha Courtney this comment cracks me up! I have balance but I don’t have grace. ๐Ÿ™‚
