Friday Favorites – September 16th, 2016

friday-outfit

Happy Friday friends! I woke up to a crisp, cool Fall morning and the promise of what is going to be a wonderful and relaxing weekend. Tonight Bo and I are heading to Exceed Fitness as part of NYC Fitness week then we are going to a new neighborhood restaurant for date night. Tomorrow will include no alarm clock, yoga, an event at Bandier, tennis and plenty of relaxation. My only plans for Sunday are an 8-mile long run with my friend Mary and a few errands. Like I said, this is going to be the weekend my body needs and craves. What are your plans for the weekend?

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • Yesterday’s outfit was definitely a favorite this week for both me and you guys! After sharing a peek of it on Instagram many of you asked for more details. Even though the items I’m wearing in this picture were purchased last year, everything is still available and many of the items are on sale! In case you are interested, here are the links: Faux leather skirt – Chambray ShirtPave Link Bracelet – Leopard Heels (similar and similar)
  • These two articles on sugar and carbs were eye-opening and a very good reminder that you can’t always trust what you see on labels or recommendations.
  • As someone who started running later in life, I could not be more excited for Women’s Running series, Project Start!
  • The WebMD rabbit hole is a scary place. Trust me, I’ve been there more than once when looking for answers to health questions. A new site, Truly-MD, is providing no-nonsense answers to women and better yet, the information comes from healthcare providers so women can make informed decisions!
  • Thanks to a special delivery from Skinny & Co , I was inspired to start oil pulling again this week! Last year I kept up this healthy habit for three months and love that it leaves my mouth and gums feeling fresh and clean! This coconut oil is has a refreshing mint flavor and is 100% pure, wild-harvested, raw coconut oil. If you want to try it out, use the code SKINNYCO15 to save 15% off your first order.
  • If you’re a blogger, make sure you check out this post as it is very helpful and makes SO much sense!
  • Similar to Kayla, I often see people make these same form mistakes during workout classes and wish I could correct them!
  • If you’ve never ridden at Soul Cycle, this is the month to try it out! New riders get to ride for free in all cities – just call your local studio to book!
  • If you’re in NYC, the new Dumbo Yoga Vida location is gorgeous and must be added to your list! Two studios, a loft vibe and huge showers and steam rooms make it the perfect place to relax and unwind after a long day. Bring a friend and sweat through their hot yoga class then head downstairs for coffee and breakfast at the new Bluestone Lane.
  • These nutritionists made me think twice about a few of my go-to “healthy” snacks.
  • Last year this Turkey Trot was on of my favorite races of the year and registration opened today!!  and I can’t wait to race it again! Here’s hoping I can find sub-8:30 paces in my legs over these next two months. Who wants to join me at Mile High Run Club?
  • Speaking of getting faster, this treadmill workout  helped Laura set an amazing new 5k PR!

Friday Favorites – August 12th, 2016

Nat Geo

Yesterday’s National Geographic Instagram Pic of Banff

It is finally Friday! My out of office message is up and we fly to Canada this afternoon. I’ve been dreaming of the views for weeks now and can’t believe it’s finally time! Even though neither of us have packed and our to-do list is still 17 items long, we are SO excited for this vacation together. This week was jam-packed with fun workouts, lots of work meetings and late nights trying to get everything done but now that Friday has arrived I’m ready to enjoy nine straight days of disconnecting from work. I am going to share our adventures via Instagram Stories and Snapchat as well as a blog post or two.

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • These No Bake Almond Bars  would be the perfect sweet treat to bake the week we’re back from vacation since I already have all the ingredients!
  • I can’t wait to share pictures and videos from our trip with you guys especially now that we have a GoProGet ready for some awesome videos of white water rafting, mountains and hopefully a few animal sightings! Any tips for using a GoPro? We’re complete novices!
  • We enjoyed the classes and atmosphere at Work Train Fight so much that we used all three of our ClassPass (<–Save $20 with this link) classes in just five days! The 60-minute classes combine a challenging 15-20 minute cardio portion with 25 minutes of bag and technique work with 5-10 minutes of ab work. Unlike some other boxing classes I’ve taken in NYC, I truly learned skills during these classes and the instructors did a great job explaining each move. So far our favorite instructors are Prashant and Clint!
  • No idea if I can pull this off but I love the look. I imagine pairing it with a tank now and then with a sleek turtleneck or silk blouse for winter.
  • Charlie headed to Africa last week to climb Mt Kilimanjaro and her pictures are making me want to add this to my travel wish list. Do you have this on your list?
  • Have you guys tried these crackers? I’ve been pairing the almond flavor with hummus for an early-evening snack recently, but even alone these  light, crunchy and flavorful crackers are delicious!
  • In light of the recent deaths of three female runners, everyone seems to have an opinion on how, where and when women should run but at the end of the day, that isn’t the problem.  If you are going to run alone, I think Strava’s Beacon technology is incredible and a great way to keep friends or family aware of where you’re running!
  • I finally invested in this stylish, sleek backpack after lusting over this one for quite a few months. My back and shoulders are thanking me after just three days of using it! I love that it has so many inner compartments for my things and easily fits my work laptop!
  • I love when dietitians share a peek into what they eat as it provides great inspiration, especially when they include recipes!
  • Did you see that Wal-Mart acquired Jet.com? It’ll be interesting to see what this does for the start up retailer but one thing is for sure – the eCommerce space is always changing.
  • Have you guys tried the new nut butter filled CLIF Bars? Bo and I were so in love with the flavors we received from the brand a few weeks ago that we ordered more of the peanut butter and chocolate peanut butter flavors for our Canadian adventures.

Have a great Friday friends!

Friday Favorites – August 5th, 2016

iced coffee

Happy Friday friends! I hope you guys have had a wonderful week and are ready for the weekend. So far the only plans for the weekend include an REI shopping trip in preparation for our trip and a Saturday morning long run with Zoe and Gotham City Runners. Otherwise we hope to spend the weekend relaxing in the neighborhood. What are your weekend plans?

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • I am always confused by the use of a period at the end of a text, especially when just a simple word or two, has led me to believe the person sending the text was annoyed or upset. Based on this New York Magazine article, I’m not the only person who feels this way.
  • Like many runners, I don’t always foam roll often enough or properly. This simple Foam Rolling 101 video is a great way to remind yourself of foam rolling’s importance and the proper way to roll each of your key running muscles.
  • If I was shopping the Nordstrom Anniversay Sale, I would buy this top as I’ve seen two separate people wear it this week and love the way it can transition from Summer to Fall.
  • Curious about the benefits of collagen? Julie did a great job explaining the benefits as well as the results she’s seen in this post.  I have started including collagen in my smoothies 2-3 times per week but after reading this post, I have decided to start including it in my morning coffee.
  • It is so important to be smart when running, especially in light of the recent murder of a local NYC runner. Every runner, especially females, should review these 6 simple tips for protecting yourself when running alone
  • Is there a better way to get pumped for the Olympics then watching this USA Olympic Team Carpool Karaoke?
  • I may have to whip up this lemon avocado hummus for an appetizer tomorrow night!

Your turn: I am reading more than ever now which means I need YOUR recommendations! What book have you read and loved recently?
