Friday Favorites – June 24th, 2016

leaving nyc

Guys, it has been A WEEK. You guys know that I do my best to blog at least three to four times per week yet this week I haven’t had a chance to come up for air once. I burnt the candle at both ends, waking up most days at 5:30 for morning workouts (FlyWheel, Mile High and Bar Method) then finally curling up in bed around midnight. It was a great work week, including my 10 year anniversary celebration with Procter & Gamble, enjoyed during drinks and dinner at Morimoto.  But, as we drove out of the city last night at 7:30 I was definitely ready for some fresh air and sleep. We are escaping the city for a weekend in Vermont – just what I need after a long week.

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • I’ve had my eye on these colorful Sweaty Betty leggings all season and now they are finally on sale 50% off!
  • Now that the UK has made the historic decision to exit the EU (not the UN like Fox News said…) this easy to understand BBC guide to the UK’s EU Referendum helps you understand exactly what this means for those in the UK and beyond.
  • This bright gingham shirt is perfect for Vermont’s cool mornings and the cool evenings we’ve experienced in New York City the past few weeks. My favorite way to wear it is with distressed jean shorts and sandals.
  • I have a lot of eating to do as I’ve only  been to five of the twenty-one hottest healthy restaurants in NYC. Who wants to start a lunch bunch and try a different one each week?
  • Summer means fresh food, grilled everything and long, lingering weekend dinners on the back porch. I pinned these 10 unique lettuce-free salads, in hopes of trying a different one each week. Tonight I’m starting with the asparagus and feta salad!
  • On October 21st you’ll be able to see Hamilton on PBS – or at least 15 minutes of the famed Broadway hit. Until Bo and I can see it in person, this will at least help me begin to understand and appreciate everyone’s love of this show.
  • Before this week it had been YEARS since I stepped food in an Old Navy store. However, when I found myself without a sports bra for an evening workout I remembered that Evann and others have raved about their Old Navy Active experience and decided that this was a perfect chance to try their gear out for myself. The Go-Dry Cool Fitted Shelf Bra tank was perfect for Wednesday’s FlyWheel class and the Go-Dry Performance Racerback Elastic Tank kept me cool during this week’s runs!
  • After years of hard-work my girl Theodora finally received a much deserved promotion at Daily Burn! I’m so proud of her!

Have a great weekend! I’ll check in tomorrow with my latest Stitch+Fix order as well as pictures from our Vermont adventures.

Friday Favorites – June 17th, 2016

Happy Friday guys! I don’t know about you all but this week left me completely exhausted and counting down the seconds to the weekend. I’ve been working into the evening each day this week trying to catch up on work and still, somehow, I feel behind. Anyone else ever feel this way? During crazy weeks like this I do my best to ensure I get my workout done bright and early, keep a to-do list neat me at all times and do my best to make sure I reach for water more than I reach for coffee. There is nothing worse that caffeine highs and lows when I’m trying to be productive.

Now, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.fhitting room pic

  • The Summer weather has me loving OUTDOOR WORKOUTS! This week I had the opportunity to join Fhitting Room and Brookfield Place Lululemon for a fun, sweaty workout as part of the Healthy on the Hudson workout series. Theodora, Ashley and I agreed that the sunshine, turf, water views and fresh air helped the tough workout fly by faster than normal!
  • Speaking of Summer workouts, the team at Well+Good published their round-up of NYC Summer workouts yesterday and I seriously want to do as many of these as possible!
  • As you guys know, I’ve been experimenting with a more natural skin care routine over the past few months. After meeting Indie Lee during the Wellthily Montauk weekend and hearing the story behind her products, I knew I wanted to try them for myself. When I ran out of my current toner I replaced it with the Indie Lee Co Q10 TonerAfter just one week of use I am hooked and tempted to buy more products from her line. This skin balancing toner is free of the harsh chemicals which typically dry my face out and instead soothes my face and leaves it feeling refreshed. I love using it after workouts as the aloe and chamomile naturally help reduce the post-workout redness.
  • If you’re a fan of flank steak, these eight marinades will take it to the next level. I whipped up the balsamic-rosemary marinade on Wednesday night using herbs from our garden and it really left our steak tender and flavorful even though it only marinaded for an hour.
  • After reading about Anne’s Canadian adventures, we were inspired to plan a Summer vacation in Western Canada. This August, Bo and I will spending ten days exploring Jasper, Banff, Lake Louise and other areas. We haven’t finalized the itinerary but we have two of our hotels and our flights booked!
  • Over the past year I’ve had three close friends struggle with miscarriages. I was so moved by Julia’s brave post about her personal experience with miscarriage that I sent it to a few of my close friends as well as emailing her personally. While I haven’t experienced this personally, I do believe that it is one of the unspoken struggles couples face more often than we realize. I especially appreciated her tips for those of us that are friends, so that we can best support those who need us during this difficult time.
  • I’ve fallen back into my iced coffee habit this week, enjoying iced coffees from two of my favorite spots,  Blue Bottle and Little Collinsearlier this week. What is your favorite iced coffee?
  • We are hosting a Summer BBQ tomorrow night in our backyard, complete with white lights, hamburgers and music.  We are making life a bit easier on us by inviting our friends to bring appetizers, side dishes and dessert while we are going to provide burgers and pasta salad. Now, how to choose from just one of these mouth-watering pasta salad recipes? Do you have a favorite?

Have a great weekend friends and I’ll check in later this weekend with pictures from our party!

Friday Favorites – May 27th, 2016

dance dance

Happy Friday! Are you guys doing the long weekend dance yet?  I have just a few more hours of work before we head up to Vermont for the weekend. My family has a home in Manchester Center, Vermont which is the perfect place to visit when we need a weekend out of the city.  We are doing something new this weekend and spending a bit more time in town enjoying some new restaurants, workouts and shopping. While we’re not in town we’ll be hiking and breathing in the fresh, clean air and enjoying the warmer than normal weather.

I hope you guys enjoy a wonderful, long weekend. Please take a moment to remember the reason and history for this long weekend as it isn’t just about cookouts and welcoming Summer. So since there is very little time between now and the weekend, let’s dive into this week’s edition of Friday Favorites, including recipes, articles, posts and other things that caught my eye this week.

  • How can I not address this week’s opening picture. Wedding dancing is definitely one of my favorite things as there is nothing more fun than our group of friends, great music and a huge dance floor. This picture was taken two hours into the reception and what you can’t see is that I was dancing barefoot and sweating profusely. Can we have another dance party soon guys?
  • Thank you Time.com for this explanation of  why Memorial Day is a three-day weekend.
  • I finally caved and ordered my first off-the-shoulder blouse. Miraculously, both Bo and I find it flattering and fun. I’m going to wear it to dinner tonight with my new sandals, white jeans and simple gold earrings.
  • I loved this OPI nail polish so much that I bought it at Rite Aid following this week’s manicure. It’s a bright, cheery pop of pink that coordinates with almost any color or skin tone.
  • If I’m craving something other than an apple and almond butter for an afternoon snack, I’ll turn to this popcorn. The hint of olive oil and sea salt gives it a rich, delicious flavor while still only being 24 calories per cup! There is nothing artificial or crazy on the ingredient list just popcorn, sunflower oil, olive oil and sea salt!
  • Earlier this week I had the opportunity to hear two employees from LinkedIn talk about the perfect profile. This graphic easily helps anyone take a lackluster or non-existent profile and quickly transition it into a profile that will get attention and build your equity online. As they reminded us during the speech, a profile isn’t only important for job-seekers but also people who manage others as these days employees go directly to LinkedIn to learn more about future employers or team members.
  • While I take a pre-natal vitamin daily, I think it’s very important for people to understand more about vitamins. This quote articulated the importance of understanding the why and aligning it with your doctor.  There are only 13 vitamins, which are essential for health, compared to over 85,000 dietary supplements for sale in America.

Have a great weekend friends! I’ll check in from Vermont with some of our adventures but until then, I hope you enjoy some rest and relaxation.
